I did. If you want control of everything an additional crossover is required. i think the crossover you are talking about has switch such as high medium and low for the bass. At least that is how they were with my old Polk DB's.
You will need all crossovers and tweeters Nate, Your new system will have four channels.. Two for the front and two for the rear...... Each channel will go to a crossover and from the crossover to the speaker and the tweeter. So one crossover for the front right speaker/tweeter and another for your left front speaker/tweeter, one cross over for your rear right speaker/tweeter and one crossover for your rear left speaker/tweeter..... As far as the unit, I personally love Kenwood..... Even this basic affordable unit would work great... http://cartoys.com/products/product...P345U_In_Dash_USB_CD_MP3_Car_Stereo_Receiver/ I would get a more afordable system like that^^^ and pair it with this 4 channel amp since it does seem like you will be going for a component speaker set up. This amp would be perfect for the polks or alpines.... http://cartoys.com/products/product.cfm/Alpine/Alpine_KTP_445_Head_Unit_Power_Pack/ Remember this amp is not for big speakers/subwoofers... It is special for the set up you are trying to do....
OK i am back from my day of research. I actually learned a lot today at the store and here on this thread. I listened to all the brands that were recommended and i gotta say that i was most impressed with these and even these as oppose to the Polk. The Polk had a nice sound also but kind of gave a "lower" sound as oppose to "louder". Only problem i had with the Infinity was the Polk gave more bass, but because i plan to get a sub anyway that should take care of that. I now know that if i get All four speakers component then its best to get a 4 channel amp which will run through all four speakers.. (right?) now when i get my subs i will have to get an additional amp (2channel). Salvy i was looking at that head unit today actually and it wasn't bad at all. Also i noticed a big difference in the 6.5 and 6x9.. too bad my car doesn't fit those but its ok i suppose since its soo small. I suppose that amp you suggested Salvy would work just as well with these infinity speakers? BTW Best buy blows as far as speaker selection
O only problem was that i couldn't find any infinity 4" component speakers (guess they don't make them; only regular speakers) although other brands did have them...
Hey Nate, sorry I have taken so late to answer but I have busy with school.... Anyways, yeah infinity is also a great brand but like I said... Its always better to listen to them because sometimes I had customers choose $50 sony speakers over $90 Pioneer speakes (they both suck) lol.... Man, it is not easy finding 4 inch component speaker sets... Dw about them, just do the infinity components in the back and regular 4 inch speakers in the front. I have infinity coax 4 inch speakers in my front doors and they sound great. Amp all four speakers and add a small 10 inch subwoofer and that should sound great ....
Dont worry about it you have been more than helpful! I went to another best buy because i realized i didnt give the Alpine sps-600c a listen. I was also impressed with these. I would have to say the alpine and infinity are my styles. At best buy they had the Alpine connected to an Amp (Rockford p400-4) and they had the option of turning the amp on and off. The difference was outstanding, after hearing the speakers with and without the amp it is a MUST that i connect one! the Alpine amp you suggested is a nicer price though!
Recommend these Autotek AT1000 250 Watts x 2 (subwoofer) $77 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Autotek-Street-Machine-250-Watts-x-2-Car-Amplifier-AT1000/13050447 And this miracle subwoofer Dayton RSS265HF-4 10" Reference HF $105 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-460&vReviewShow=1&&vReviewPage=2#reviews It plays like a bigger subwoofer than a 10 with a really low frequency response and nice excursion yet is tight and accurate and not at all boomy. Stunning sound, other speakers can go louder, this one goes better. Can't recommend enough.
Ah ha, see thats why you listen to them hehe.... I say go for the infinity's, the reason I recommended the alpine amp was because of its size and power output... It is prob 40 watts rms on its better days and I think thats just enough or more than enough for small speakers like the ones you will be powering.... Yeah there are more expensive amps out there but remember, we are trying to get a system that goes well toghether not a system that is out of balanced with a strong amp and small speakers<<< not good.... Oh and that reminds me, I have a classic Rockford p400-4 I wanted to put in my supra but my uncle its still in my uncles truck... Meh, I better get it back...... Anyways, yes speakers sound way better when they are beaing powered by an amp.... Word of advice, this is prob the amp for you.... It is much cheaper then when I worked selling car audio 2 years ago but this is what we used to showcase our top speakers with... http://www.amazon.com/AMP-2CH-CLASS...8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268230058&sr=8-8 Eclipse 4 channel amp, the beauty of this amp is how many things you can do with it... You can power all your 4 speakers or what I would recommend is powering your two components in the back and a subwoofer all with the same amp and leaving your smaller 4 inch speakers upfront alone..... I promise you thou, if you get this eclipse amp you wont regret it... It made Sony speakers sound amazing and this prob would be the true heart of your car's audio.... Back then it would sell for $600 bucks.... check it out...
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_21590_Cadence_Xa1254.aspx Eclipse makes fine amps, but that is too rich for my blood. Cadence makes a good 4 channel for $180 shipped vs $262. You could not tell the Cadence and Eclipse apart, blindfolded.
Eh, not saying the Cadence amp is no good (I am sure it is) but I rather spend $82 dollars more on the Eclipse.... Its not a large amount for the quality you get back, and plus I get alot more control over my speakers with the Eclipse... Bragging rights also .... $262 is worth every cent for this Eclipse amp, I wouldnt be saying this 2 years ago when they were going for $500-600...
If that 80 dollars means he is powering his sub with the Eclipse and not powering his rear door speakers I strongly disagree. If he is just spending extra to get an Eclipse, then fine.
You mean not powering his front door speakers? they are 4 inch speakers man, the last thing you want to do is push heavy loads of power throu them.... 4 inch speakers dont provide nor can handle much bass/power. This is where Eclipse wins, the total control of the filters you will be using per speakers. I rather leave the 4 inch speakers left alone thou just to be safe and amp my two sets of components in the rear while having the same amp push a single subwoofer.... Two amps, one for the subwoofer and one for the speakers in this case would offer a minimal upgrade and can be messy sometimes... Not to mention you have to look at many things like voltage on his alt and properly grounding them so you dont run into problems later on.
Not for the 4" speaker sake as much as the subwoofer. That is a 150w @4ohm bridged amp. I am sure it has headroom being .05 thd @rms, but that is still pretty soft. You would need a very efficient sub in a big ported enclosure. Anyway, the eclipse is cheaper here. http://www.woofersetc.com/p7270/EA4100--Eclipse-4-Ch-400-Watt-Amplifier.htm $189.99 At that price, I don't have much to argue over.
You know you would get the Eclipse lol..... At that price even I am considering getting one... Here is another great amp, Elemental Design Nine.4 http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_22&products_id=46
Thanks again for the suggestions, MAN! i went to car toys today and had the opportunity to listen to a guys system after the install and i was amazed at the sound quality of the speakers! there was not even a sub hooked up yet. Focal is the best i head so far! a lil too pricey for my range but boy they are great! I liked the Rockford amp i heard that were hooked up to the alpines at best buy. The price for the Eclipse is hard to beat though.
Meh, go Eclipse lol.... I have an old classic Rockford p4 4 and I love it but Eclipse is just too good to pass up.... If you go infinity's with an Eclipse then you cant go wrong. On another note, what kind of car was the system in? a car with a large trunk or 6x9 will have alot more bass then your mirage... You are dealing with the same size of speakers I have and in my hatch its almost impossible to get decent bass out of just the speakers..... You will get a much better bass output because of your trunk.....
I'd go with Alpine. When I had my other car, I put an Alpine system in it, amp, deck, speakers, sub. I got so many complements on how good the sound quality was from those speakers, it was so crystal clear. I actually had some infinity speakers in there too, but the alpine were so much better i sold the inf and bought some more alpine.
