I concur with Beck's Prime. It is the best burger I have ever TASTED in my life. I brought my gf from Atlanta there and she agreed. The strawberry shakes were pretty darn good too.
All that work of breeding and raising to create the most intensely marbled beef the world has ever known...... .......and then people want to grind it up and make a burger with it. I mean, if you want your ground beef to be extra fatty, there's a hell of lot easier ways to go about it. And I know, there's a hell of a lot of beef on a cow that can't be sold as steak, so this is a way for the people buying Kobe beef to get the most return on their dollar.......but considering the actual appeal in Kobe beef (superior intramuscular fat)........it doesn't say much for the person who would pay a premium for a Kobe hamburger.
I brought up the Hubcap Grill as my favorite burger joint at the top of this thread about a year ago. It is great to finally see Ricky Craig and his crew getting some legit print cred. Chron Review-Hubcap Grill From the basic cheeseburger to the ultra creative burger (Philly Cheesesteak, Greek, Muffaletta, Double Decker, etc.), the Hubcap is cranking out the best in the city, and in the article, Cook writes it's possibly the best in the state. If you haven't tried, Go! Hubcap Grill 1111 Prairie St Houston, TX 77002 It is only open for lunch. Apparently, they are also serving burgers out of a food truck on Washington now. If you try it, let us know what you think.
Wow......I missed this one from Alison. I'll have to try it. One burger I've been enjoying a lot lately (It isn't convenient unless you just happen to be there) is at the Blue Water Grill in Jamaica Beach on the west end of Galveston. Place is a total dive, but the burgers are great. Alison Cook sent us to BRC a while back............that was a pretty decent burger as well.
Lankford is hightly overrated. Just cause its huge doesnt make it good (yeah yeah...we know Swoly). Greasy as ****.
I gotta try this Hubcap place...the description of the Philly steak burger in the review gave me a chubby.
has no one been to Sam's Deli Diner? 3.40 for a delicious filling burger... only two locations, I 10 and kirkwood, and on pin oak near katy mills mall... freaking tasty..definitely not great quality but cheap and delicious. suprisingly found this out about them, 34th best burger in texas according to texas monthly... http://www.texasmonthly.com/blogs/eatmywords/?p=500 smash burgers good, flavorful, a bit pricy though.. they almost make burgers girly there.. becks prime...king of houston.. the only bad part is the price.
Yeah...I never understand the fascination with a Kobe burger. That said, Max's Wine Dive on Washington has an awesome Kobe burger.
Are there even "real" Kobe beef in the U.S ? I thought it was only in Japan and some other parts of Asia.
Well, technically Kobe beef is from Wagyu cattle raised in Kobe. So what you generally will get in the US is Wagyu beef raised in the US.
Having tried Wagyu beef for the first time a few months ago, I don't know why you'd want to slap it between bread and put "fixins" on it. It really was the best steak I've ever had. Luckily it was free because there's no way I'm paying that much money for dinner - no food is worth that premium to me. But who knows - I may try it again one day.
