I will 2nd this opinion. I love the Ender series but this book was just wonderful.

I have pretty much read everything he has writen. Great author and very versatle. I think he gets overlooked because he is labeled a sci fi author and they get little respect.

Another "sci fi" author I just love is Octavia Butler. Anything by her is good, but Wild Seed is probably my favorite.

I agree with your opinion on Card. I've read almost all of his works, and he blends in quite a bit of moral\philosophical threads into his narrative. His books stand apart from most sci-fi authors, and I will usually pick up a new book by him based solely off the body of work he has put together over the years.

Thanks for the tip on Butler. I just added Wild Seed to my list of books to buy. I don't read as much sci-fi as I used to, because most of it is schlock. Yet there are some really talented authors out there in this genre if you can find them.

Another author I've started reading is Jim Butcher. His Dresdon Files series is really fun. Let me know if you think of any other authors along this line. I am always looking for new authors to read. I tend to find someone I like and then read everything I can find by them.

Trying not to duplicate anyone else:
The Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve series by Robert Asprin. A bunch of short fantasy books that are incredibly funny.

Almost anything by Dennis L. McKiernan, although the Iron Tower trilogy is by necessity derivative of the Lord of the Rings (he originally wrote the Silver Call duology as a sequel to LOTR, but the Tolkien heirs wouldn't allow it to be published). Has the high adventure stories like Tolkien, but doesn't get bogged down as much in the minutiae of the history of the world, so the reading has a better flow, though it necessarily makes the world a bit less fleshed out.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. I never would have imagined a book about two architects and two newspapermen would be so entertaining. It is a little disturbing that she thought Roark was the ideal man considering what he does with Dominique.

I haven't had time to read books and I LOVE to read. :(

So far, I love all Alyssa Valdes-Rodriguez books (Dirty Girls Social Club) and Dan Brown books.

I will resist the temptation to list every book I've ever read and just say that, if I had to only pick one book to own for the rest of my life, it would be Friday Night Lights.

Just one of the most powerful books I've ever read.

I've read all of these book threads and Ender's Game continued to come up so I finally read it and the entire series. Actually, I didn't read them I listened to them as an audio book. The audio book series is actually an extremely well produced collection and I would highly suggest the series for any audio book fans.

But If you're reading this thread, I will suggest that the next book(s) you read be Ender's Game.

Oh yeah, I meant to thank everyone that has ever suggested this book in these book threads. I'm really glad that I heard about the books.

Now, it's hard to decide what to read next...

Good for you, no pun intended.

I read a lot when he was a kid, and then stopped reading for a long time because I found watching TV is more fun. I got most of my information from the TV after I became a teenager. Now I am in my 30s, and I absolutely dread watching TV except for sports. To me it's really hard to find any shows that are not biased or catered to certain tastes. It's like fastfood of intelligence. Well, there are still some good shows left, like 60 minute, HBO's real sports, and most shows on PBS, but others in my opinion are mostly trash.

I find myself go back read a lot these days.
