Not too terribly much. There were LOTS and LOTS of them made...even first issues Incidentally, keeping shrink-wrap on old vinyl isn't the best thing for it. The material shrinks as it ages, and has been known to warp records within.
If you are particularly interested, there is a really nice series called "The Beatles on Capitol Records," "The Beatles on Apple Records," and "The Beatles on VJ Records" that include reproductions of virtually every sleeve and label variation in the US.
you have to have them all but in order i'd go: 1)rubber soul/revolver 3)abbey road 4)help 5)hard days night 6)the white album 7)sgt. peppers 8)let it be then the rest of em. anyone else buy the beatles anthology on dvd last month? the songs remixed in DTS are amazing.
I never think of it as "best," but here are mine: 5. Revolver 4. Rubber Soul 3. White Album 2. Sgt. Pepper's 1. Abbey Road It is tough to pick one because I love them all so much. Revolver was the first Beatles album I ever really loved and Tomorrow Never Knows may be one of my favorite all time songs just for its trippyness. Rubber Soul is just too cool for words. The White Album, though disjointed and containing some of the worst recordings they ever made, had tremendously brilliant moments. Any album that has both Blackbird and Dear Prudence cannot be dismissed. And, Sgt. Pepper's is just one of the single greatest recordings ever made. But, I have always just loved the melodies on Abbey Road. Plus, to me, there was nothing that epitomized the Beatles more than the fact that this was their last release (if not technically their last recorded effort) and they ended the album (and, basically, their career as a band) with this amazingly melodic and profound moment singing "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Then, as if to remind you they had one of the most ridiculous senses of humor ever, they fire off Her Majesty just to be smart asses. Like, "Yeah, we can do the profound stuff, but we're just too damn silly to care." I LOVE moments like that. They are what made the Beatles so unreal. That kind of stuff is why I love music so much.
I think I should have changed the title and question to 'favorite' and I actually meant that my favorite period was '66'-70 not '67 which would have left out Rubber Soul, I think.. Great responses from everyone..
Coolness. I have a pre-lawsuit vinyl copy of the Rolling Stones "Some Girls" LP, before all the female celebrities sued to get their pictures taken off the album. A record collector told me it's worth fifty bucks, but I'm gonna hang onto it. An old girlfriend once tried to swipe it from me when she was moving out. My favorite Beatles albums are Rubber Soul and Revolver.
Revolver would probably my top one, with Abbey Road, and White Album coming in a tie for second. I do agree that Magical Mystery Tour is an underated album. I believe that the Beatles most underated song and perhaps their best songs is 'Flying.' It's also one of (I think)3 songs that is credited to all 4 Beatles. The other two include the one on the White Album that's only a few seconds long, and one that I believe is available on the Anthology and was originally on a special release to the fan club members only. I can't remember it right now. 'You Know My Name Look Up My Number' is probably my favorite all time Beatles song. It's very innovative and also very underated.
