The Big Bend thread got me thinking....Not beer-joints, not restaurants, not clubs, but bars.

    Menger Hotel

    Driskill Hotel

    Gage Hotel

    Warren's Inn

    What else is there?

Rudyards (affectionately called Rudz), besides live bands upstairs, they also show all Rox games

    ffb would like to contribute:

Hotel Icon -- The bar, which is separate from the restaurant.

Love that place, miss that place, but it does not fit my criteria. Has good food and good music, thus not a bar.

ffb says "Buck seems to be going for the Grand Hotels...We don't do those much."

So, in the grand hotel theme, I'll contribute this...still only Houston...I can't help with much else

Hotel La Columbe D'Or Bar (Montrose)

    Now *that* was a bar.

When did they remodel? I remember it being a dark, dank hole in the wall with giant wax-covered wine bottle candles, and the fire marshal would only allow 14 or so people upstairs at a time. What the **** are the windows there for?

Dude, that window was always there. But we probably only went there at night and didn't notice. I celebrated the Rockets '94 parade there...among all my venture. But went to Warren's Inn more, around the corner. That photo doesn't have the 100 yr old candles. let me find you another photo.

Good call. Also the old Rainbow Lodge on Birdsall, overlooking the bayou greenbelt.

Don't gimme any Icons or Zazas or any of that frufru crap. I'm talking bars.

    I miss Houston. Somewhat, sometimes.

How about the Roll-N? That dive-y enough for yall?

I must confess, I was never there in the daylight. Looked like a wall to me.

can anyone name a Fredericksburg bar

Also, SmeggySmeg will be in Austin on April 13th-17th. I'm sure Smeggy would appreciate a cool bar that fits Buck's criteria.

Buck...can you edit your OP with city names.

There's german beer-joints everywhere up and down Main St. Park and walk up one side and down the other, it's open carry, btw, so just stop in and hang out on the patio, and walk and stop in....

Menger's in SA, Driskill's in Austin, Gage's in Marathon, Warren's is in Htown. There's other awesome places all over, I'm sure, but I was just thinking about old-school historic "bar" bars.

Nothing like getting wastey pants at the Gage Hotel bar and then walking across the road to ride the trail donkeys bareback at 2 AM. And no, that isn't a euphemism.

Nice call on Menger's, I love the vibe there.

    I miss Blanco's

I liked Gingerman's, even though I can understand if the crowd can be off putting at times

Roll-N cleaned up, ditched the old bartenders and rebranded as Railyard.
