I need a great authentic mexican food spot. Curious to try new ones. Anyone have a favorite?

    And no Tex mex please.

    Go.

Would you like to define "authentic Mexican food?" To start. There's like 5 distinct Mexican cuisine of tremendous variety. I don't think there is more than a couple of places that provide it in Houston.

But, authentic, street vendor Mexico City food, yeah sure.

El Paraiso on Fairview and Stanford is my favorite.

Mexican food that isn't catered toward women in their 30s who need queso and margaritas to soothe their sad lives.

Tacos del Julio is a chain but its fairly authentic. They give you charro beans instead of chips and salsa.

La Silla (also a chain, but DAMN good). On Spencer Hwy. Get the Plato Mixto, with tortillas de maiz. They also have really good tacos de pastor.

I agree with this. I lived off of their tacos in my single days. They were so big that I could make 4-6 tacos out of two.

I mean I had spinach quesadillas when I went, but the food that friends ordered got really great reviews.

Pico's on Bellaire. I think they're opening a new one next to Little Pappasito's.
