I live in West Austin now. but I bought a place.
if you like nature and hills etc, something on loop 360 would be good.

hype park if you want to be close to campus area. its cool, but don't expect anything cheap if you want a more modern place.

south austin is pretty cool. lots of stuff to do.

Yeah, I just saw some pictures of loop 360 cutting through those bluffs like that, pretty amazing, that seems more up my alley. Don't get me wrong, I love the hustle and bustle of the big city, but some of the pics I saw of West Austin and Lake Travis were pretty amazing! I'm thinking that 620 and 2222 would be too far out there for me though, not sure... that long 2222 seems at a glance about 55 mph and scenic, no?

That Triangle place in Hyde Park was outrageous!!! 1 bedrooms start at like $1500 or something, lol! I'm assuming thats about as modern as it gets there!

What areas of South Austin are you referring to in particular? I'm just trying to remember all the area names...

Wow, that place is AMAZING!!! That's worth 900 for sure, it's just that moving can be pretty expensive and I'd rather be on the conservative side for the time being until I'm established in the area. We'll see though, that place looks like its worth every penny, thanks!

I agree with those who are saying NW Austin, around the Arboretum area in general. Also, the Parmer/ 620 area is good, too. With all the toll roads developing, you can get from that part of town to downtown in about 20 minutes or less.

I lived in NW Austin, and it just seemed easy to get from there to just about anywhere in a reasonable amount of time, and Mopac always seemed better than 35 to me....

I lived off 2222 across from 3M a few years ago and had a 3rd floor apt overlooking the greenbelt with a downtown view and 1300 sft, yes 1300 square friggin feet of space for $800. Unfortunately they raised rents so I moved back down south. You can find a nice place for under $800.

For me, "Austin" is bound by 183 on the north end, Airport Blvd. east, Colorado River/Town Lake/Ladybird Lake south and MoPac to the West. Anywhere in that zone is a great place to live in "Austin." There are other nice places to live outside that zone, but to me they're not Austin. (Tarrytown would be the main, but not the only, exception to the above "rule of thumb.") Yes, anything south of the "river" is South Austin, not Austin.
Thanks and have a nice day.
Good luck. Watch out for scenesters...

    Sacrilidge !!!!

South Austin is less crowded, and easier on traffic. Heck if I leave my house it takes me 12 minutes to get downtown and 12 minutes to get to the Salt Lick.....beat that !!

Oh, and property values out here in Circle C are rising a LOT faster than up north....WOOT !

You just proved my point, Southie...

If you're referring to the area I described in my original post as "north," then what do you consider "central?"

Also, it takes me less than 12 minutes to get "downtown," and I can ride my bike there, if I wish, without crossing any major highways (much less ride on them).

Check the Arboretum area. Apartments are nice, less college crowd, and you can get anywhere in town in 20 minutes from there.

But can you ride your bike to the country in under 5 minutes like I can? Better to have the best of both worlds....but then, I am a married man with kiddos.....

If I was single, I would live central....
