I don't understand how you claim you love Houston so much, yet you live in Austin.

dude the hometown is in my heart, and of course the Rockets, and i do visit often. however, there is stuff I don't miss.

    I-10 is one of them.

Plus there are plenty of Houstonians here in Austin, they just don't want to move back ;)

I just don't understand your hyping of a hometown hero when you don't even live in that hometown. :)

But I kid...I'm going to end up back in Austin one day.

we both have HISD in our hearts! no private school or Fort Bend stuff :p

They need to transplant some more restaurants from H-Town up here. they'd make so much money.

I see an apartment off East Riverside in your future...

Just kidding. Well, not entirely. You're going to have a heck of a time finding an $800 apartment where you want to live. (you'll figure out where you want to live after checking out Austin a bit better) Have you considered a roommate? (may have missed this from someone else) If you split the rent, that opens up a host of areas where you could park yourself. Austin is a great city, a really cool place, even with all the growth, but it is also very expensive when it comes to renting or buying a house or apartment, compared to most of the state. Good luck.

    huh?

I lived in Austin for several years up until 2005/2006, and the last apartment I lived at was my own 1-bedroom place over 700 sq feet, off of Duval and Mopac...which is basically the Arboretum area. and it was only $700-something a month

have prices drastically changed the past 1-2 years?

Yeah, that sounds about right to me... I mean it's all about location, then size, then how new it is. I can find a good $150 a month difference within just a 5 mile radius of where I currently live, for very silimiar floorplans/sq. footage...

i think you should check out the Riata (arboretum). its got a staffed gym, computer center, basketball court, volleyball court, community activities also.

each month they have some restaurants come in and do some presentations, and have free food.

I could be way off. I had a friend looking for places recently, and they were all surprisingly expensive, but he was looking for fairly upscale place. Just disregard it my post.

call them, there are different villages, i lived in the second cheapest village.
i paid about $700-$800 for a one bedroom. they usually have some special for 13 month or 7 month leases.

give them a call and ask.

15-20minutes, you hop on 183 and take mopac straight to downtown.

oh, AVOID any places near I-35, worst traffic highway in austin.

I'm a fan of the Far West area. Its not far from downtown, lots of trees, hilly, and fairly quiet.
