Halcyon Digest has really grown on me after about 7-8 listens. I think it has to be up near the top of best albums of the year.

put away your vampire weekend records and skinny jeans - its a late entry, but this one might be my new album of they year... R KELLY - LOVE LETTER double up had some good tunes, but this is the musical weatherman's most solid album since chocolate factory - its a very 70's influenced retro-soul sound, which has become popular the last couple years - hes always had elements of that, but on this album he goes all out. lyrically, its probably his most sincere album too - theres no 'sex weed' or 'sex in the kitchen' or 'sex planet' or 'feelin on your bootie'. the only time he gets really dirty is on 'taxi' - where the pied piper of r&b and his girl 'make love in a taxi' - pretty rockin tune w/ some crunchy guitar - i would say its the best song about taxis since lenny kravitz - mr. cab driver. the last song is a spot on cover of mj's 'you are not alone'. he even did a special x-mas remix of the title track - its probably the best christmas song since that wham tune from the 80's. kellz was kind enough to put it up on his youtube page - this album only solidifies my belief that r. kelly is a true musical genius - the stevie wonder, berry gordy and marvin gaye of our times all rolled into one. if pitchfork wasnt so lame they would probably give it like an 8.9 or even a 9.2.

Whoa, I thought he was the hitting coach for the Cardinals and trying to make people forget that he took steroids. Glad to see that he has accepted that he won't make the HOF and has changed careers, lol. Not looking forward to the new Asobi Seksu, Brightside?? What about new albums by old school post-punkers like Gang of Four and Wire??

I'm throwing "Postcards From a Young Man" by Manic Street Preachers as my 2nd best album of 2010. Deerhunter's "Halcyon Digest" still number one, though.
It came out late in the year and I think right now, it is only available as an expensive import. Kills me as the best music usually gets resigned to that fate and definitely deserves better. That album reminds me a lot of "Send Away the Tigers" but maybe better.
