It's good to have posters like Deckard who could actually tell us from his own recollection how Eisenhower was as a junior politician :p.

    I just did.

I'm not that old, ATW!

I do remember watching Ike on TV give his warning about the Military-Industrial Complex, it's huge influence on American politics, and the danger of allowing it too much influence. Sadly, not enough people paid attention. It was an excellent speech.

Good to hear! Don't forget that he was deeply experienced politically by the time he became President, whereas trump had (still has) no political experience at all. It shows. trump also isn't intelligent. He's clever and ruthless. There's a huge difference, in my opinion.

That topic deserves its own very long thread, and doesn't really have a place here, in my opinion. There are huge arguments to be made from all sides of the topic, Left, Right, and Center.

Systems fail all the time. And now your unchecked thesis has morphed into an unbalanced characterization.

au contre, they as different as day and night

Reagan used Executive Orders to extend amnesty to certain undocumented immigrants, and was successful at it; Trump has used Executive Orders to ban immigration from certain countries, and has been unsuccessful at it

Reagan reached out to the other political wing to expand his support, case in point, the Reagan Democrats; Trump continues to double-down on his base, case in point, his AWOL on the international climate change accord

Reagan actually had detailed tax reform plans; Trump still doesn't

Reagan was the great communicator; Trump is the purveyor of such meaningless words as "covefefe", bigly

Love this thread. The premise of "Other than having almost nothing in common, Trump and Reagan are the same person" is amazing.

I guess settling $25 million for your phoney balooney university within the first weeks of being elected technically isn't admitting guilt.....

    A) No it was civil and shows what kind of business man Trump is along with other actions, he's the shady type.

    B) You said he wasn't found guilty of anything and I said you were technically right but..... Trump has a pattern of selfish, shady behavior.

    No.

But consider Bush Jr's policies when talking about checks and balances and how we are still deeply involved in the middle east and the pain that still lingers from the 2007 economic crisis. Deficit spending, starting two wars of choice, and deregulation don't require a bunch of checks and balances and can have long lived impacts.

Seems like we are repeating the Bush Jr doctrine in terms of deficit spending and deregulation with significant geopolitical strife.
