    I haven't watched Fox this week, but as I understand it that is the story they have spent the most air time on in the last two weeks.

    No wonder academic studies showed that the more Fox is watched the less informed about important current events the viewer is.

    Just silly. Mexicans and everyone else want to take the most effective vaccines and have the best healthcare, but as we see in the US many cannot afford it.

    I understand that... the Mexican government decided to rely on Russia for the vaccine. Perhaps it will prove to be a wise decision as they can get some vaccines now. I just have ZERO interest in taking the vaccine developed in Russia or China.

    Personally I would take the most effective vaccine --even if it came from China or Russia. As far as I know it is not from Russia or China.

    As for Mexico I believe China, very smartly is giving them the meds at a cheap price, maybe well below cost. I see no evidence Lopez Obrador has any inherent preference for Russia or China.

    Oh if our own country would be smart enough to do that throughout the world. It would actually help with winning "hearts and minds" and national security more than having expensive bases and bombing all over the world with drones.

    I don't recommend it for those without a sufficient base of knowledge and wide exposure to to other sources. The propaganda is sophisticated, very consistent in reinforcing key points from numerous angles. Like the mainstream news it is very effective in mixing in heartfelt entertaining stories like paraplegics scaling Mount Everest or kids raising $500 selling lemonaide for the homeless, while carefully avoiding or minimizing very important stories with respect to the actual causes of of their stories dealing with climate change, racism, inequality etc.

    Yup that’s real world economics

    wait for Bernie Sanders to convince companies to stop patents and heal the world like they were Michael Jackson

    or take the free vaccine from Russia so they can control the spread

    it’s an obvious answer for Mexico

    but at least here we get the good stuff .

    Sure and I don't see much of a problem with that. I don't think making a profit is something to be discouraged or looked down upon and think it is one of the best motivators for addressing a profit.

    As I said earlier there is a place for both pure research and for applied research for a profit. I agree governments and other institutions should invest in pure research and if that can be used to address a problem and a company can make a profit off it then good. As stated many institutions enter into licensing and other deals with companies to develop research they developed it to get a return on the development into a product. In return the companies pay, reinvest or donate to the institutions. More reason to emphasize the importance of Intellectual Property.

    On the specific topic of space exploration I fully believe that to explore more of space and ultimately settle on other worlds we need to commercialize space. To reference The Expanse, there's a good reason why the show starts with a commercial space ship and it's also frequently referenced that places like Tycho Station and Eros are corporate run entities and not out there just for scientific or even nationalistic reason.

    I watch local news and it’s blows my mind how addicted the D&D is addicted to cable news
    Where it’s completely profit driven .
    we understand this and we understand Hollywood. I went to some tapings in Los Angeles. It’s a complete show. I’ve seen tnt productions and know for
    sure that Kenny and Charles and Shaq have two people with them at commercial break to prep them.

    people on the D&D don’t get that these shows are produced like clockwork

    I watch CNBC like the rest of the 99ers because we are savvy investors

    other than that, ancient aliens on history channel
    Don’t laugh brother but that’s been on for like 15 years

    A lot of this is happening already. Consider that Merck has entered an agreement with J&J to manufacture their vaccine.

    I have no problem with that. I don't think someone becoming a billionaire is a problem unto itself. I don't begrudge Elon Musk becoming a billionaire for developing and marketing new products and especially that he is putting much of his wealth at risk for something I support, space exploration.

    As a Tesla shareholder I'm counting on Elon Musk to make a lot more money.

    I don't dislike or admire Jeff Bezos for being worth $200 Billion. I can agree he has some bad business practices and should pay his workers more but him being a hundred billionaire isn't a problem of itself.

    How’s the rollout In Minnesota?
    Texas is rolling out pretty well. I know lots of people who got the vaccine one way or another.

    California is slower than dirt doing theirs. They are picking like niche industries.
