I'd rather sign an average PG who wont hurt us and see whats available next season, via the draft or FA or trade.

Brent Barry was too old and too injury prone to get a 4 year deal. Hell, he's my age.

Everyone else seemed the same to me....average.

Why overpay? Do we need Moochie Part 2?

Sign Jones to a REASONABLE deal...

We're building a team here. Maybe the Greek kid will end up being the man in a year. Maybe not.

Avoid Fisher, please...one great shot does not justify a big contract...although it does mean you get drafted instead of Rashard Lewis.

Both SF and DJ are right at 6'3". I used to work with Falsone in the summers, and I am 6'3". Both those guys were my height.

Nothing really new, but the Daily Herald (in a report about the Sonics) says there is a lot of interest in Fisher.

    http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/04/07/15/spo_sonics001.cfm

And there could be additional help. The Sonics have spoken with various free agents, the foremost being Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher, who visited Seattle earlier this week. Talks are continuing as Fisher, who has spent the first eight seasons of his NBA career with the Lakers, weighs his options for next season.

"Anytime you bring somebody in (for a visit), it's definitely serious," Sund said. "Derek brings some of the intangibles that we really like that we think we might lose with Brent leaving. Mostly, that's experience.

"But there are a number of teams interested in him. Obviously we're talking about adding Derek to our club, but we're also one of several teams talking to him."

With so many suitors, Sund added, Fisher "is the one holding all the cards."

There are three 1s 'mentioned' in the same breath as Rox (reports would be too strong a word):
    Daniels
    DFish
    DJones

Other 1s 'out there' in various scenarios include:
Snow (good player/horrible contract). To take Snow would require Dalembaert, IMO.

Crawford (would he conform to JVG and Yao/TMac?) in a SnT for Howard (a Pax fav, so we've heard). [If he would JVG then he would excite me more than any of the other 1s.]

Hinrich (available if ERob or JYD were included, IMO). Howard for JYD and TE for Hinrich?

AWilliams (take him and his horrible contract please).

    Terry (a 2 in a 1s body)

FWilliams. Isiah wants to do something. Rox broker a deal with FW as payoff?

There are possibilities out there. Things will shake out. Rox will be OK for the season.

yeah, but for 6 million a year, I'd pass on him. The only pg I would've paid that much money for would have been B. Barry.....And I'm sure we tried, he just went for a better team, cant blame him. :(

I think someone said earlier that Fisher may want to large (and long) of a contract.

Interesting note - the word from the Bucks web board (not to post rumors - but it is very relevant here) is that THEY have trageted Antonio Daniels from Seattle (again - to clear up cap space so the Sonics coupld sign Fisher) so that might be another reason we are hearing these other names floated out there as prospects for Houston

I wonder if Fisher (and the rest of the league) is waiting for Kobe to pick his team before the rest of the deals can go through

Im just curious why does everyone continue to wright off Keyon Dooling? Can someone explain? Here we are getting hyped over Damon Jones and there is a guy like Dooling out there. He may be a bit streaky but when he does go off hes gonna drop some points on you. Ask Steve Francis. Talent wise the guy is better than alot of the other career backup point guards we have got ourselves excited about over the past couple days!

Because hes a scoring PG, who can't shoot very well. Hes exactly what this team doesn't need.

Hes not a very good defender either (without even looking, I know that SF had some ridiculously good shooting games against them).

I always considered Jones a very nice backup PG, Lue a nice backup, Daniels a nice backup. I guess you can look at this 2 ways. #1 we have not been able to attract a starting PG and get mad, or #2 Maybe these guys are just waiting for their chance to break out given the oportunity and get excited. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Ummm yeah, Dooling hasn't been on the Clippers for a long time. He has since been on the Blazers and Cavs. But, you are right about Kobe.

I wouldn't hesitate to say that signing Damon Jones to a multi-year contract would be tantamount to the Rockets saying they struck out on getting any of the point guards on their original wish list.

Tyronn Lue was better in college at Nebraska and has been better in the pros than Damon Jones, which combined with Jeff Van Gundy's characterization of him as a "good back-up", presents the not so-attractive platooning of the two at point guard.

While they both possess the minimal qualities required of a point guard on this new-look team, at the end of the day, seeing either's name in the starting lineup leaves me less than satisfied.

    D*mn, a pass-first/shoot-when-open PG? They really exist?

If they sign him to a long term contract, I probably wouldn't be happy either because that would mean they view him as a long term solution at the 1, which he most certainly is not. But a one or two year deal for cheap would be ok with me. It's not like there were any other point guards available. Other than Nash and Barry, there was no one out there worth spending any money on. And the Rockets don't have any tradeable assets left after the deal with Orlando to trade for any quality point guards. Under those circumstances, not much more CD can do.

Don't forget Gaines; he could be the Rox future 1. Lue & Jones are just stop gaps until Gaines gets it together.

The Rockets can't afford stars (or even very good players) at every position. YM and TM will get the bulk of the salary, and eventually the Rox might spend some $$$ on a bruising power forward.

Point guards require the least athleticism and don't have to have much beyond a good outside touch and a solid head on their shoulders.

Those attributes can be found on the cheap.

    Center - great!
    SG - great!
    PG - very good
    PG - good
    SF - good

I'd spend my cash in that order, but that's just me.
