Well I guess we won't know what teams value him at till after the deadline. If we are 15 games below .500 and he's still here after then that means his value is low. That rational enough?
He's been injured this year. He's had 55 at bats and has played hurt. REEKO, all you do is rip Houston franchises, act eternally pesimistic and critical and at the same time call yourself a "fan". In the hangout, you seem like a great dude, but as a sports fan, you are nothing short of pessimistic and terrible. And you gave Tim Duncan a pass on leadership because they have Manu, but you don't give Berkman one because we don't have a different fiery leader? That makes absolutely no sense.
Berkmen is the best hitter in the history of this franchise. He doesn't suck it up in the playoffs, and he doesn't speak in cliche.
Really we only know if he is traded. The Astros may not want to trade him, and may demand way too much. Personally, I don't think Drayton will trade Lance, and he we only trade Roy if he asks for one. Of course that is just my opinion.
Dude, I love the Stros. I love Puma. I hate what the club has become but I'm just assessing the situation in a more pessimistic light so as not to be disappointed when the end result is ****. How can you be in any way optimistic coming into this season? Smart people knew even last season that the rebuilding should have started before then. Someone was comparing Tim Duncan to Berkman so I expressed my opinion. If anything the person who led this team to big time success would be Clemens. Not that he didn't contribute but that the comparison doesn't apply.
There's a difference between optimism, pessimism, and realism. You're allowing your pessimism of the team to cloud your objectivity of the value of Berkman. People don't trade for a team leader mid-season. Whatever you value Berkman's leadership at, it's totally irrelevant to his value as a midseason acquisition.
hapourfhgq9uhfqh!!!, listen I'm not trying to say his leadership has anything to do with his numbers. If his numbers were great I wouldn't doubt a team would want him but they aren't. I'm just saying that if he doesn't contribute to this team with his play (as of now) what should we expect from a team in return?
I'll give you playoff performance where he was a horse but if his career with the Astros ends this year he is not the best hitter. Also cliches are awesome. After, "that's baseball, funny game".
Its actually a close call between him and Bags. Berkman has the better career averages very slightly, but Bags has a slightly better prime, including his monster 1994 season. It will really come down to how Berkman preforms these last 3-5 years of his career. In the end their numbers will probably be very similar.
You said: Who would want him? Dude has no killer instinct. And then went on to explain that "killer instinct" as leadership stuff - not getting upset, etc. You de-valued Berkman based on something that no team is going to care about when trading for him.
I guess I thought everyone knew his on field production was awful so I didn't see a need to bring it up. I also thought the article made him look like he gave up on this season a little bit.
I knew this would happen with all the losing and not just losing but embarrasing loses. Roy, Puma and Myers are competitors and want to win so I'll assume all will be gone by the deadline. Wandy and Lee seem to be laid back and content with whats going on so not sure on them but this team could rebuild its system very quickly if Wade makes the right moves.
I'm not going to claim that I know anything about evaluating prospects in beisbol, but can this organization be trusted with developing any prospects we acquire? I know that wade gets credit for building those championship teams in philly, but for some reason I worry that we won't get any pieces that will help us in the long run. We did get jason bourne, which at the time, I thought we got nothing..so who knows.
I don't think the Rangers have much use for Berkman with Smoak and Vlad taking up their DH spot. Oswalt on the other hand.. though I'm not sure they'd give up anything MLB ready (Holland, Feliz).
Oswalt needs to keep that ERA under 3 and he should get us a nice set of prospects. I really don't mind if they are young AA or AAA guys as long as there is true potential. Oswalt could be this years Randy Johnson or Cliff Lee as both where needing a change of scenery and as soon as it happened they took off. I'd take a solid #2/great #3 Starting Pitching prospect(Garcia), reliable young middle infielder(Gullien) and solid major league ready innings eater.(Halama)
the best we can do is acquire as many prospects thought highly of throughout baseball as possible. Whether they pan out or not is still not a definite, but you're improving your odds. Jason Bourne did kill a few people--I think everyone knew he was a beast. As for Michael Bourn, a lot of people thought he'd be pretty good when we got him...I for one was really excited. If you had seen him in his call-up with Philly, you could see the talent was there
I have never heard of a "killer instinct" in baseball. Get mad after a loss? It's baseball for pete's sake. 162 games...do you really expect someone to get all fired up after a loss? Don't be ridiculous...or wait, that was Reeko? nevermind... Lance isnt a Ra-Ra guy but that doesnt mean he isnt a leader to this team. You don't have to be overly emotional or give big speaches in the locker room to get people's attention...e.g. Andre Johnson, Hakeem
