I doubt Morey is offering that much and taking back that many contracts. Also we can't trade any of our own picks until we fulfill our condition with Atlanta via the TWill trade.

This!!!!^^^^...why is it so hard for people to comprehend this...I still think we are front runners even ahead of Lakers...magic will not trade for Bynum unless he agrees to sign extension cause then they would be in the same situation as now..unhappy center waiting to leave....so why would Bynum sign extension if he is unrestricted if he can pick where he wants to play ....I think Orlando wants to start over and that is not trading for a big baby aka Dwight Jr....aka Bynum and go thru this mess again...

Not Atlanta but possibly Brooklyn .. between endorsements and a little wink wink with my new multi billionaire buddy, well 57m. may not seem to hard to overcome to be in a place I really want to be.

Where is NY going to find the cap space to sign him? Which of the NBA's "glamour teams" will have sufficient cap space ($20.5M) to sign him in 2013?

As of right now, neither LA team nor NY team will have the cap space to offer him a max deal.

    Maybe...

Everyone that's so worried about him leaving us in a year if we do get him what are his choices? Can't go to LA or Brooklyn, they don't have the caproom. Maybe our ability to offer him an extra year and and $20+ million more will tilt the odds in our favor. It's a risk, if he does leave then we suck for a while collecting some high draft picks to land some franchise stars, that's still better than getting the #14 pick every year.

Brooklyn has no cap space to offer him a max deal. They used it to acquire Joe Johnson and re-sign Gerald Wallace.

ding ding ding .... because he doesn't want to play there .. just like he won't wan't to play here ...Only difference is they've found a sucker in the Rockets ... doubt we end up with half the value we give up, when we are going through all this drama again next year.

He apparently hates his hometown of Atlanta. If the Rockets play their cap room game correctly, there is a better chance of Josh Smith leaving Atlanta to join Howard than there is of Howard leaving Houston to join Smith.

What will attractive about Dallas in 2013? The entire point of Dallas being on Dwight's list was that Deron Williams would go there with him. Now what do they have? A 35-year-old Dirk? Who knows how well Dirk will play next year and how good that Dallas team will look? I mean, even Jason Terry and Jason Kidd have not joined Tyson Chandler in the exodus. This is not going to be the 2011 NBA Champions we are talking about in 2013.

Neither Atlanta nor Dallas are really the kind of glamour marketing location like NY or LA.

It is the difference between dating the average looking girl when you'd rather the hot girl, and hooking back up with your average looking crazy ex that you needed a restraining order against. If you have to do the former, you will and try to make the best of it, but before you'd do the later, you'd gnaw off your leg to escape.

C'mon guys. You really think Dwight leaves 30 mill on the table??? Dwight??? He won't. He knows it and that's why he made those remarks "to scare Houston off" He knows that he wants the 30 mill, but he would rather get that in Brooklyn or LA. No way Dwight leaves the money.

How much salary will Brooklyn have to dump in order to fit Dwight Howard's salary under the cap?

If they don't get Dwight now, for the year 2013-14, they are going to have Deron Williams ($18.5M), Joe Johnson ($21.5M), Gerald Wallace ($10M) and probably re-signed Brook Lopez ($10-11M?) and Kris Humphries ($8-9M?) all on long term contracts. And this is not even counting any of the smaller salary they need to sign to fill up a roster.

Dwight Howard is eligible for a max contract worth roughly $20.5M starting. The current cap is $58M, probably not going up dramatically in a year. You tell me who they are going to dump for no new money in return by July 2013-- and what kind of season they'll have in Brooklyn if they spend all year figuring out how to dump most of their best players.

If $30 million will be leverage for the Rockets to keep Dwight in Houston, why is it not the same for Orlando? Is there a difference in leaving $30 million on the table in Houston as opposed to Orlando? I am attempting to understand the Bird Rights that everyone is talking about that helps Houston, but does not help Orlando.
