it is often clinically obvious that a man has suffered a penile fracture, and the most obvious sign is deep bruising at the base of the penis and a rapid loss of erection. It’s called an “eggplant” sign. These patients will often get ultrasound imaging of the penis to find the defect/fracture fibrous shell around the corpus cavernosum, but if it’s suspected clinically and not confirmed with imaging, the patient still goes to the OR for penile degloving to directly visualize the corpus, injection into the corpus to document the leak, and if present, primary sewing of the injury with putting the skin back on the penis.

So be careful out there and be mindful where your bat is and only swing when you know it’s in the box, and you won’t risk striking out.
