Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was involved in a serious accident on Wednesday in Charlotte, the team reported on its Web site.

Police told the Kentucky Post that Henry fell out of the back of the bed of a truck driven by his fiance. They told the paper that Henry had jumped into the truck as it was driven away by his fiance.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Henry's fiance, who has not yet been named, attempted to drive away from him following a "domestic situation," according to police.

Police told the paper Henry's injuries were life-threatening.

The Bengals said Henry's injuries are believed to be very serious. Henry was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 9 after breaking his arm during the Week 9 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Henry's fiance's family lives in Charlotte.

    -----DELETE IF POSTED.

SI says they are possibly "life-threatening."

    Here's SI's take.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Police say Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has suffered serious injuries after falling out of the back of a pickup truck during a domestic dispute with his fiance.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement that Henry was found in the road Wednesday in Charlotte "apparently suffering life-threatening injuries." Henry was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where his condition was not immediately known.

Police say Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his unidentified fiance was driving away from a home. The domestic dispute continued and Henry eventually fell out of the truck.

Henry broke his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8, had surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

    What?

Can we get some updates? Sucks for Henry, he was really getting on track before he broke his arm. It's not about football anymore, I just hope he's okay. :(

Apparently the report is false -- came from a fake Twitter account.

But they're saying he's on life support now and the situation is "dire", so if he isn't dead he's really close. Tragic.

I just heard he's on life support.

Man this is horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and the Bengal community. :(

A fall and respiratory insufficiency requiring a respirator = either a hematoma or a broken neck/spine as far as I know. I believe the first is pretty recoverable while the second not as much.

In the case of a hematoma, respiratory insufficiency would be from blood pooling under the dura/bone and displacing the brain so that it pushes against the brain stem. If this is the case and they reduce the pressure, he would be able to breathe again once the pooled blood drained. If it is something they can do without drilling his skull to drain the blood, I think he can recover pretty completely. Hopefully this is the case.

    I'm thinking it's probably a hematoma.

In this case, he could even be on life support in a "medically induced" type deal. This is the case, I believe, in a lot of those situations.

    This is insane.

Count to 10, people. Nothing/nobody is worth getting so fired up that you get yourself killed.
