It does kinda suck, I'm not taking vacation days to stay in Houston and I'm not even rich. Ben Simmons, some kid who ran into skills that gets him paid almost 40 mil a year, you think he wants to be in Houston? Nah.
I guess you don't get out much. I have lived many different places and for year traveled often and as a city Houston doesn't "kinda" suck......... especially when the place he is at now is Philadelphia.
Dangit I was looking forward to a super Ricky Rubio who creates no gravity and could allow defenses to triple team Wood, shoots 60% at the line, has a 2:1 A:TO ratio and has a worse eFG% than Eric Gordon this year in a system that's built for him! What a bummer
Feeling was mutual Ben... But really I don't blame him at all. I don't think it was as much about Houston as it was that he just wanted to remain in Philly.
You guys sound butt hurt. He’s on a contender with the team that drafted him. Why would he want to come to Houston? He doesn’t want out..
I lived in 3 different US states, as well as 3 different countries. I try to stay as objective/realistic as possible. I get Houstonians are proud of Houston, I lived there for 10 years so I guess it's not bad and it has treated me well. But you're definitely not spending vacation there. Not a chance.
For those saying who cares or it doesn’t matter.. it does. We almost traded for him. Can you imagine if we spent years and resources trying to build around him and he wants to leave? And honestly? Simmons not wanting to be here is like getting rejected by the ugly girl.
I'd say more than anyone being hurt, "no one cares". This isn't tweet worthy and it has nothing to do with Houston. He probably wouldn't want to go to New York, Boston or Miami either. Only a minority of fans wanted him and his numbers in no way indicate that he could play in a system that isn't built for him. Even the threads about wanting Ben Simmons here were divisive. Examples:
Good. https://www.theringer.com/nba/2021/1/15/22232686/sixers-shooters-ben-simmons-joel-embiid The focus on Simmons’s refusal to shoot 3s misses the bigger point. Simmons attempted one 3 on Thursday, and already has hoisted almost half as many (three) as he did all of last season. The more glaring issue is that he struggles to score from anywhere outside of 3 feet from the basket. Simmons is shooting 33.3 percent between 3 and 10 feet and zero percent between 10 feet and the 3-point line. That trend goes back to his rookie season.
