josh smith played very well in his rockets debut...harden played his best games for 76ers in his first 6 games upon arrival... basketball is a simple sport...
He can play like a super-sized, non-shooting Bruce Brown. Take 10 of his minutes. Something like that.
Simmons would definitely give the Nets a plus defender against the Celtics...but what the hell are you going to have him do on the offensive end? I guess KD/Kyrie believe they can play 4 on 5, offensively, because both can carry the scoring burden but man....it's hard to see how Simmons is going to bring anything more than just being a rebounder on the offensive end. Claxton Durant Simmons Brown Kyrie ? That lineup replaces Curry's 3 point shooting with Simmons' defense. Wouldn't be the end of the world since Curry got a bum ankle right now.
I mean, despite my previous posts, I am intrigued to see him play with Kyrie/KD. Simmons is a high IQ, highly capable player that is just a bit soft.
It’s Ben Simmons not Chuck Hayes. The guy averages 16 for his career just by being around the hoop and running the floor. He can also handle the rock and does well at creating for others. It’s not like they gotta change their offense or run plays for him. He’ll easily get at least 10/5/5 as a simple plug and play.
People acting like Ben Simmons never scored a point is hilarious. If he can help keep it close until the 4th, Kai and KD will finish the game off. In Philly, it was Embiid or nothing.
Simmons is definitely a superb role player. The problem is when people think he is a franchise kind of player. He'll be fine if he comes back and will probably help the Nets. That being said, I want that guy nowhere near the Rockets, he is an absolute selfish cancer.
All true, except that Simmons is unplayable in the half court set. We saw it in last year's playoffs. Most of his points are from fast breaks, which he's fantastic. It would probably be fine if he was willing to give up being the PG in the half court and set screens for teammates. The Nets should have enough fire power to cover his non-shooting. The question is, would Simmons be willing to play the Capela role on offense? From all the reports we've seen, he's one of the most uncoachable players. It's all about his attitude.
He doesn’t even need to touch the ball in the half court set. There’s no reason for him to. He’s def not going to be playing the PG role in half court sets and they don’t need him to score. He had to do those things in Philly but not anymore. If he does get the ball though he can still drive (Embiid not clogging the paint helps) and he’s a very good passer as well. Nets half court sets are for KD/Kyrie going ISO to score or get their shooters a good look. If they didn’t need Harden they sure as hell don’t need Simmons but he’s nice to have cause he hustles, moves and can create with or without the ball. I see him playing a role similar to Draymond and if he does it well which I believe he can they’re gonna be dangerous.
Again, all true. But the question is not what they need him to do, but what he is willing to do. That's what happened in Philly. It will likely be the same in Brooklyn. We'll see.
He’ll be happy just to fit in. He’ll never be more than a 3rd option there ever for as long as KD and Kyrie are there. I think he’ll be coachable and do well. We’ll see.
