If someone had come up to me a year ago and told me that in a year's time the Astros would be without Wags and Dotel and that Bags would be batting 6th, I'd have gone looking for a straightjacket.

dotel was always one of my favorite astros, and i feel even worse knowing how much he liked being here. i'm still in huge favor of the trade but it'd be nice to have dotel back at some point down the line.

    It's Jimy's pattern of rest that's wrong:
Viz at 1st and 3rd when you've got Lane & Lamb as subs.
    Lamb at 2nd.
Starting Blum over Ensberg too many times last year.
    Palmerio getting starts over Lane.
Starting Bruntlett at all. This guy's just a short-term call up. What's the point of giving him starts?

Jimy's use of middle infielders at the corners and in the outfield will cost the Astros at least a few games this year. I just hope those few games don't cost the division.

Please say this does not mean one more season with Bad [sic] Ausmus behind the plate.

Please say it aint so..........please......'cos I getting sick to my stomach........

If we keep him for next season - then we don't really care about winning. He is the blackest of all black holes.

That does not point your point or premise right (since the issue about line-up positioning is centered mostly around hitting and RBI ability especially in this case).

I know Beltran is a better base stealer than Biggio, but I would like to see him in the number two hole. Biggio has a better average, and Beltran has more pop in his bat.

Ha Ha Ha! That lineup has too much pop for Jimy. We might score over 2 runs and we wouldn't want that. Instead, we need a middle infielder (or two) playing in the outfield or at the corners.
If you were a professional baseball man like Jimy, you'd understand his wisdom and leadership. But you're just another idiot fan who hasn't learned anything from watching baseball all of your life. How dare you suggest a lineup?

By the way, Jimy's so great, I think he should make up the Rocket lineup too for next season. It would go something like this:

    PG: Mo Taylor
    SG: Yao Ming
SF: someone called up from the minors
PF: Mike Wilks (got to keep him sharp!)
    C: Jim Jackson
T-Mac will be on the bench so he can rest. Wester Conference finals, here we come!

If you read my original post, I simply said that Bagwell would not create a problem if he was moved to 6th in the order. He was moved to 5th to accomodate Berkman (the best hitter) and he was moved to 6th to accomodate Beltran (the best player). In either case, the hitter Bagwell was moved for is a better hitter.

Personally, I'd rather see Bagwell or Beltran hitting 2nd. I am tired of the Astros giving up outs in the first inning via the bunt. Williams mentions how it is "working" because they have scored a lot of runs (41) in the first inning. Currently that ranks 7th in the NL. I do not consider that working nor is that a lot of runs, relatively speaking.

    That is clearer now.

I completely agree with the reasoning behind your second opinion. Our team is too good (imo) to be giving away outs and not scoring enough runs. I have faith that Beltran's addition to this team will go a long way in fixing that.

Who is going to be our catcher next year?

Just tell me it is not going to be Mr. Ausmus and I will be fine........please...

I suspect Ausmus will again be the starting catcher.

Dotel is pitching for the A's for the first time and looking very shaky. Gives up a walk, single, 3 rum HR, and a double to start the 9th. Luckily the A's had a 4 run lead, which is down to one.

Edit...hit by pitch. Two on, no outs....

    Edit: Bases loaded, one out....

Gives up another run. Gets out of the inning, 4 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and a blown save. Ugly.

Isn't he under contract next year anyway?

Gimenez should get a full season in AAA next year- if all goes well, he'll be up the following year.

Yeah, signed a two-year extension. As I see it, Houston needs Ausmus as much as they need Bagwell and Biggio -- yeah, that's not saying a whole lot.

I;m still in favor of Ausmus though.

Off topic, but I still can't decide whether or not to purchase AS tickets or not. Only viable option is standing room only but I still can't decide.

If anyone else is interested in purchase single or double (or more) tickets, www.StubHub.com has a good number of tickets (for all events) left at a fixed price.
