Beltran has less that half the homeruns as Morgan Ensberg, nine compared to twenty-two. He is batting 262. So far, big bucks for little bang. In the playoffs last year, he looked like the greatest baseball player of all time. He was absolutely unreal. Now, he looks very real, even ordinary. Time proves everything.
Anyone else think that the major dropoffs that have been seen this year with many star players has anything to do with the increased scrutiny of "The Juice?" Makes you wonder....
I'm not happy he's failing....just happy it isn't here for $119 million. Though no ill will towards Carlos. He almost led us to our first world series. Now Scott Boras on the other hand......
Who would you rather have in center field for the Astros? Carlos .265 BA 9 HR 4 SB .321 OBP or Willy .294 BA 3 HR 22 SB .328 OBP And at a MUCH MUCH cheaper price. Beltran is always a streaky player...great talent but does not bring it each and every night....Willy seems hungrier and is the best leadoff hitter the Astros have had in a while. Yes, Biggio was a decent leadoff, but not the typical kind that pressures defenses with his speed. Willy is that and much more. Glad we chose to "Free Willy" DD
I just read some anti All-Star article on Fox Sports and somehow Lane is listed, but Beltran was not.
I know I decided to look them up and I found them eye opening......Willy is the better player in the first half of the season. DD
Good. Great. Grand. Wonderful! Beltran can suck it. I hope he sucks indefinitely and keeps producing these crap numbers of his. It's r****ded that he's an All-Star. I hope he never plays in the ASG again. Break a leg, Beltran - no, really.
Decent leadoff???? Biggio is one of the greatest leadoff hitters of all-time. He did it all, including pressuring defenses with his speed. The man only has 396 stolen bases and is one of only 6 to steal 3rd base over 100 times in his career (102 times to be exact). 234 HR's as well, most of which came while he was hitting leadoff (Most in NL history career leadoff homers and 2nd only to Rickey Henderson in ML history, who is arguably the greatest leadoff hitter of all-time). Biggio may not have been the rookie speedster that Willy T is proving himself to be. However, as time passed Biggio not only pressured defenses with his speed, but also with bat (and his elbow pad )
Not to mention Biggio had a much better eye than Willy and could draw the occasional walk. I love Taveras and I think he could eventually develop some plate discipline over time, but I doubt he ever has the power that Biggio displayed (now or then).
