you dont win in the playoffs without a bullpen anyways. i'd rather have the season end now, rather than next week in a 3 game sweep to the cubs. the mets freaking suck. they should blow that team up except for reyes and wright.

if anyone watched that game, it's basically how the whole season has gone for us...get rid of everyone in that ****in bullpen and start over...

Beltran was going to sign with the Astros... until he flaked out at the last moment. This info comes from a friend of mine who got their info from pretty much the closest source you can have to Beltran without actually being Carlos Beltran. This source has been wrong before... but not often.

If i remember correctly, beltran wanted to play for the yankees....and only the yankees. the yankees, however, didnt overpay for a player for a change...also i think bernie was a free agent, and they wanted to bring him back for one more season.

I didn't want to derail this thread, but i agree, he was a rental player who owed us no loyalty. I think drayton is just as much to blame for staying in that negotiation too long when it became painfully obvious that he was only there to drive up the price

Oh I just hate that mean old Beltran for jilting Houston!

And that mean old Randy Johnson!

    And mean old Mike Hampton!

Get over it. It's called free agency. In all likelihood you would have taken the money and run as well.

First of all, the money was identical. Second, let's go with the hypothetical that they offered more money. Yup, I probably would've taken it as well. Read my post near the bottom of the first page, though. I would've done it the way any decent human being would -- with class. I wouldn't have lied to my employer, and I wouldn't have used them. I wouldn't have waited until 40 minutes before the deadline to throw out an "essential" clause for my contract, if we've been in negotiations for three months.

Also, what's with the straw man argument? I've been on this board for eight years -- my positions on lots of issues are well documented. I'm no novice or casual fan. Players leave teams I support via free agency all the time. I had no issue with Randy Johnson or Mike Hampton. In fact, if you look back a couple of years ago, I was one of the ones supporting a standing ovation for Jeff Kent in his first return to Houston (and I was one of the fans who gave him one, even though a good half at a minimum booed him).

I despise Carlos Beltran. I have no problems with Randy Johnson, Mike Hampton, Jeff Kent, or any other player that's left this franchise via free agency in the last 15 years. To try and link them together in the minds of Beltran's bashers is a weak, straw man argument that has no basis in reality that I can find.

They're all former Astros who left in free agency for teams that they wanted to play for more than Houston. That's the link.

Well, it seemed as if you were linking fans angry with Beltran to being angry with Johnson, Hampton, et al. If you weren't, my bad.

The biggest traitor to the Astros the past decade hasn't been Beltran. It's been Drayton McLane, the idiot who holds his money in when we have a chance to win it all (Darryl Kile, Billy Wagner, Carl Everett, Beltran), splurges when we have no chance at all (Carlos Lee), puts finances above winning, and drove away the best general manager the franchise ever saw.

Wait for me Gerry!!! Is there any room left on that Tampa Bay bandwagon? I hear Crawford and Kazmir are from Houston, that's good enough for me.
