I watched the video with the replays an everything only once, but did it seem to anybody else that Beltran actually caught the ball?
I know it has nothing to do with the Astros and Beltran, and we really shouldn't even be talking about it here...but I was just making a point that Beltran didn't just "accept a better business proposition". I don't wish any serious physical harm on the guy. I do wish he would get robbed for every penny he has though.
Looks like Cameron is going to have surergy for the injuries sustained in the collision. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2132583 NEW YORK -- Mike Cameron will need facial surgery and Carlos Beltran sustained a concussion after their frightening outfield collision, the New York Mets said Friday. Both players spent Thursday night in a San Diego hospital following their seventh-inning crash in the Mets' 2-1 loss to the Padres. Cameron and Beltran were going at full tilt for David Ross' sinking liner, and their heads hit as they made diving tries. Cameron broke his nose and had multiple fractures of both cheekbones and a slight concussion. The right fielder was placed on the 15-day disabled list, and Victor Diaz was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk for Friday night's game at Los Angeles. Beltran had a slight facial fracture. The center fielder most likely will not need surgery.
d*mn!! i haven't seen the replay yet and i don't think i want to. I feel bad for both the guys and the team that has to play without them.
I finally saw it on Headline news, ouch. They need to learn these three little words............I GOT IT.
I doubt either one of them would hear it. The were full sprint and diving for the ball. Just one of those instances where it seems it would have never been avoided.
Yup... no such thing as calling it when the ball is in no mans land like that. The problem really was the fact that Beltran and Cameron are both center fielders with amazing talent and they are both used to taking control in the outfield.
Hey... if anything, I thought you guys would lavish in people bringing up that "curse" that no longer exists. I know that once the Astros finally won a playoff series last year, I loved the comments about how they "finally" did it, and how bad they'd been all the years before. Plus... wouldn't you love it if the Mets (a franchise mutually hated by both Red Sox and Astros fans) were the team to assume the new "curse"???
Hector Torres played SS for the Astros and Jesus Alou (brother of Felipe and Matty, uncle to Moises) was playing LF. They collided and Alou swallowed his tongue and almost died on the field. The Pirates trainer saved his life.
