He was really good in college. The thing. About the league is that there’s just an certain bar of size/strength/athleticism that you have to clear or none of the other stuff can save you and he didn’t clear that. he will always have his one shining moment.
No one is blaming Bryce for getting drafted, but any way you slice it, it was a miserable draft for the franchise outside of Cat Mobley. Bryce should be a cautionary tale for the front office regarding the '21 draft, particularly if we end up with 3 mid/late round firsts.
He was a pretty good three point shooter. He might thrive in today’s NBA. He did earn more than 7 million bucks in his career, not including endorsement money.
Yes but we traded Turkcan for a first round pick from Philadelphia. We only got 2 2nd round picks when we traded Drew, which we flipped for John Amaechi (or as he was known here, "man boobs"). Amaechi was later combined with Moochie in a trade that got us Rockets legend Clarence Weatherspoon. We complain about the Rockets front office now, but between 1997 and 2001, they were roasting hot (trades for Francis and McGrady, Yao draft) or outer space cold.
We were like.... Matt Maloney and his contract are SO GREAT, let's try and DUPLICATE it! Lulz. Meanwhile PHX had Kidd, KJ and Nash.
Omg... his rookie year was the Scottie Quitten year. We may have drafted Lewis if it weren't for him. The roster for Bryce Drew's rookie year... biggest hole was point guard... so can't blame them for their picks of Dickerson, Drew, and Mobley. Scottie Pippen Charles Barkley Hakeem Olajuwon Michael Dickerson Cuttino Mobley Othella Harrington Sam Mack Brent Price Bryce Drew Matt Maloney Rodrick Rhodes Matt Bullard Anthony Miller Antoine Carr Eddie Johnson Stanley Roberts
aka "neck like a pack of hotdogs" (sorry, best pic I could find) And March Madness Legend Bryce Drew is a top-5 exhibit on why you don't let Tournament games influence your draft
He was a first round pick, not a long term project. Francis was drafted the following year. At the time, with the old guys in the post, Rudy had only one requirement for his PG... be able to hit an open 3. Bryce had a great tournament and that's why he was drafted that high. Rudy the GM (with Dawson being the actual gm) was not the best.
Don’t forget we had Maloney and Brent Price. Rudy T’s hard on for white point guards is the reason I was happy he got **** canned.
