I've said my piece about the Danish cartoon. It's been addressed.

should we be offended by Gen Jones, considering the venue, and his role in advising the president on a settlement between the Palestinians and Israelis?

It is not the "being offended" that is the problem.

It is the whining about it.

I am an avid supporter of not condemning people for the words they choose or images they display but rather the actions they take.

People focus so much on words and images. The press is meant to be a forum for all voices. Media is meant to spread even unpopular ideas and voices.

When our media and people begin to filter that because of fear of offending people, it santitizes our culture to the point that there's nothing interesting to say. It's like sports when you have stars so coached by PR they say nothing but platitudes, "we just got to play hard and stick to the game plan".

I understand the need to be sensitive but that's not the purpose of media. And I think outrage against people for using the word "macaca" or "nappy headed hoes" or calling your buddy on air a "Pollack" in playful reference to a choice of sandwich meat.

This doesn't fight racism or bigotry, it just makes people feel like they have to walk on egg-shells and not be themselves. The sad thing is, the damaging stuff isn't the words, it's the actions...and you'll never find the actions as long as we're so focused on the words. Discrimination is a terrible thing, and how does this junk help weed it out???

As for the Islamic reaction of being offended - that's fine, they can be offended. But that's not a good enough reason to censor it. And there's something wrong in threatening to kill people for a perceived insult. The answer isn't to shut the people up or scare them into not saying anything, it's to condemn the people who are threatening violence.

If instead of being silent, everyone artist, cartoonist, comedy show, and whomever, all commited the same offensive act, it would show how ridiculous these extremists are being.

Thank you orbb. It is funny that the little clique of left-wing posters and Muslim ideologists get away with hateful posts and at the same time they call each other "level-headed" posters, while ignoring the hateful posts from their buddies. I think many good posters have already given up arguing with people like that, but fortunately, sometimes people with common sense and good values venture into the D&D and call it out for what it is.

That's great. If bad rumors spread about you and you end up getting fired/not getting work (especially if you're some sort of public figure), you're totally cool about that? Have fun defaulting on your mortgage.

Imagine how oppressive the world would be if our behavior was completely dictated by the sensibilities of the most overly-sensitive and humor-lacking people among us.

    Triple Fail:

    - can't get formatting right
    - can't edit because of being a cheapskate
    - can't admit having been wrong and being a petty, small-minded individual

What is funny about this is that I am neither left-wing nor a Muslim ideologist. If you think that I am a left-wing poster, than you have not been paying much attention on this BBS over the years.

Why didn't you donate to a charity instead.

That is also making an assumption. One can donate to the tipjar and not get contributing status. I know this for a fact. Clutch has things to do other than look for every donation and make sure they were changed to contributing status. Just posting here is privilege enough.

Because he uses this site a lot and felt like chipping in for all the great content and services provided?

Good idea dback... go around telling people not to contribute to the tipjar. I'm sure Clutch appreciates that.

Instead of posting, why don't you go volunteer for a charity?

See? I can do it too.
