Time for JVG to go. This whole holding out bonzi thing was the last straw. He would have helped last night, but JVG won't freaking play him!

    Me too.
I'd say this team has better chance of winning if dumb JVG would just let them loose. Give them a few principles:
    - Play hard
    - Play smart
    - Give it to Yao if he makes it down the post
    - Otherwise, shoot if you are open or see an opening
    - Otherwise, pass it to the next open man
    - Otherwise, set pick, roll out, pass to Yao if he is inside, shoot if open, otherwise pass to the next open man

That's it, no? Someone tells me there is a lot more to this.

If rockets get off to a slow start, they need to fire jvg. He should have been gone this summer but was given a pass due to injuries. The scrutiny he should be getting now should be a 1000 times it was last year.

Chinese people call this type of post as menstruation post. Which means it comes periodically. Highly predictable.

I agree, dude can't shoot at all.

His free throw shooting a nightmare.

In all seriousness if TMac doesn't step up then JVG will be the worst coach in the league this season.

Of course if TMac plays like he did before last season, JVG will get the last laugh on us all.

Don't think good coaching is going to have much bearing on TMac, dude needs to bring it like Lebron, Kobe and DWade-

Man TMac, either you are with those guys are you are not.

That is the whole plan for this team. TMac and Yao.

BTW- Van Gundy I hope you chewed the whole team and Yao out for the number of shot attempts he had.

OK- whip Dallas and make us all love you Rockets.

Beat Dallas, and all is forgiven, until next game.

Could you enlighten me how Van Gundy gets all that millions for such instructions? Coaching, IMO, is all about man-management and being resourceful - I don't know about former since I am not involved in a day to day operation of the club - but I do realize that Van Gundy is arguably one of the worst in the latter department in entire league. You can only go in so far as players take you.

I suspect but unless the previous threads this posts could turn out to be true. Lower turnout ratio, poor performance, lacksicidal clubhouse, and three years of mediocrity, it is safe to say he had his opportunity and time. I know team has to gel before we can make sound judgement on this lot but how are you going to mold them refusing to play out new guys in the roster to play old dud that you know quite well.

Jeff Van Gundy reminds me of 3 year old who refuses to venture a further dishes because he or she is satisfied with a bowl of creal, chocolate, and milk, whereas in fact they are more tastier things for cheaper prices.

    What was the preseason for???

Granted...there were a lot of whistles in this game that kept some key players on the bench longer than expected, but it seemed to me that JVG did not know who to put on the court?

I like Luther, but considering his play last night (11+ min, 0pts, 0ast, 2 to), I would have liked to see Vspan in for some minutes to see if his defense could have helped (assuming his TO's weren't overwhelming). I would have expected Hayes to get Padgett's 20+ minutes instead of just 8 - especially since Padgett got only 3 points and passed up multiple open shots. Yes...Padgett got some rebounds, but you keep Hayes in for 20 minutes and I know he grabs more than 6 rebounds and scores more than 3 points.

I hope JVG allows Bonzi to play in the Saturday's game vs. Mavericks. We need to get him on the court an in the rotation (assuming he isn't as out of shape as JVG claims).

I also felt that there was a lack of confidence that showed in our inability to hit the open shot. I don't know if this stemmed from the coach (switching players around like it was preseason) or the early fouls on Yao and Shane that seemed to take us out of the defense? Either way, with a few wins, they should get that confidence.

It's only the first game, and I did see a few things I liked about the game and don't expect this game to be an indicator of what to expect the rest of the season. I look to see Bonzi in the next game and hope JVG has a better game plan as to who is on the court when the shots aren't falling.

so when the Rockets end up actually having a good season, will everyone who overreacted like a bunch of hypochondriacs after one game apologize for clogging up this board with this kind of crap?

If we're at the All-Star break and have a sub .500 season at the point - fine, demand that Van Gundy sucks and he should be fired. But, come on, it was ONE game. I wonder how many people in Miami are demanding that Pat Riley get fired! He must be a terrible coach, right? They lost the season opener by 42!

Its almost to the point where you just can't come to this BBS anymore.

Its just so damn pitiful that after one game, the world is already ending. How I long for some real Rockets discussion.

disagree. JVG should have part of the responsibility. but not all. He could not decide the choice of shots on the court

THREE YEARS! He has been here for three years!
It is not his first game in Rockets, this is another game in addition to the three years.

JVG is scum. he is the worst coach in the league. if you have nba league pass, turn to all the channels while the rockets are playing. every fan and player are so excited. the stadium is jumping, the players are communicating. jvg makes the game of basketball look and feel like a funeral. our players cant have a personalitly because jvg is controlling everything. and it looks like we have a new piece of trash player this year also thats STILL going to get 30 minutes a game for some reason even though they cant do squat. padgett is the new wesley and bowen.

FIRE JEFF VAN GUNDY, HES A PIECE OF GARBAGE!!

    WE WANT RICK ADELMAN

Come on. Please do remember that the Rockets have made the playoffs in two of those three years, after not making it at all in the four previous seasons (under Rudy T.) Its not exactly as if his tenure has been an abject failure.
