Just landed in Beijing (first time in China), currently doing some research before venturing out tomorrow. Would greatly appreciate some recommendations. Great Wall (mutianyu), forbidden city and the summer palace are sitting at the top of my list. Also, would be fantastic if anyone could recommend a good private or group tour while here. Trying to make the most of this experience as I'm not sure when/if I will be able to return. Thanks a lot! (Restaurants, markets info and any other pointers would be great too!).
That's pretty much all I did in my visit there as well. Just the trip getting to and from the Summer Palace and the Great Wall takes a while. And the Palaces are so huge, you can spend hours and hours there. You can spend almost a full day doing each one.
Great Wall, forbidden city, temple of the Heaven. If you like cheap flea markets, knock off goods and haggling. The silk market. Also have peking duck at this place. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...ews-Dadong_Roast_Duck_Nanxincang-Beijing.html
I forgot about the zoo. Got to see some Giant Pandas. There aren't terribly many outside of China. Only 4 zoos in the US have them.
The zoo is like really close to the middle of the city, so you don't really have to commute very far. There's a subway stop there.
