Starting with multi-party free election, everyting else will follow.

    You think so?

If it's that simple, India and the Philippines would be most advanced country in the world already.

lol. at the moment, free election at local level is probably the best way. i say, one of the best thing is, public profile on all government official finance, including their entire family. you gotta be transparent.

Funny thing about China these days you can spread pirated stuff without a problem, spread p*rn to a extent without a problem, call out each other's mom without a problem, minor internet scam probably can get away, but discussing politics is no no. There is a limit over there, and everybody knows not to cross that line, like a silent pact everybody accepts. Some criticism from the West, as long as honest and sincere, I don't have a problem with.

Just arrest those Chinese people who paid a million dollar Cash upfront for a house in LA or those who lost tons of money in Las Vegas.

    :D

    Keep dreaming.

It's a long process. Overall China is on the right track. It's going to take time for the "free world" to accept China too. I remember when I first came to the States in the early 90s, anything related to China reported was negative. Now, you get a mix of things reported out of China, mostly positive for reporting China's economics, and negative for reporting politics. I am like "You go, girls" these days. It takes time.

    Nothing would be that simple.

I am all for more democracy and freedom in China, but one of the biggest fear for me of switching to free election would be the over population problem. If China goes to free election right now, any party that would abort birth control would win in a land slide, and then 2.5 billion people would be starving by the year 2050.

According to the article they are trying to keep it a secret - not announce it in front of the whole world.

Look, China has indiscriminately cracked down on Chinese citizen ethnic minorities like Tibetans and Uighurs in Beijing in order to shoo them out before the Olympics - see here - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080718.wchina18/BNStory/International/home - it's not surprising that they would crack down on foreigners

It's more like they are the government. Right now corrupted government officials in China are no news, a not corrupted one would make news.

To me, this is still the best country of the world in terms going about your own business, democracy, open immigration, etc. I am from China, so obviously I care about the wellbeing of PRC. Also when we talk about China, much was focused on the middle-class in big cities from many Chinese perspective overseas, but don't forget about the rural people of China, more than 800 million of them, the country is still very behind.

I'm having a good laugh over good ol' Sammy's antics again. He's convicted the Chinese government without proof again. What a surprise.

You know, to find out if this is really true, it really isn't hard. Find some black dude, pay him 100 bucks (or however much) to walk into a bar. Have some other guy hide in the corner with a camera and see if the black guy gets stopped. Then make sure the camera is never turned off in case it "misses" certain events. Problem solved.

And if Sammy's gods couldn't conjure up such a crude and simple yet effective evidence, we all know why don't we?

Just thought about it, since tinman is so up in arms about Chinese racism, let's send him into the bars. Then have Ottomotton and wnes men the cameras.

It matters how? He's not there to get drunk. He's there to walk in the bar, and get paid.

The cops allegedly had no problems rounding up a bunch of them. Can't you do the same Sammy?
