Weighing in here for a moment I think one frustration that anti-PRC posters have is that it often seems like standard operating procedure from pro-PRC posters is to immediately criticize the US, such as say when something is brought up about Tibet the reaction is to say well the US has invaded Iraq. The argument tends to go along the lines of expecting that to hit US sense of nationalism by pointing out how Chinese nationalism is being hit when the truth is that many of the posters will agree with the criticism of the US in Iraq and for the most part criticize the US government very harshly regarding problems in the US. So while yes it is wrong to lump Chinese posters I think some posters on the other side engage in lumping US posters also.

Completely agree which is while I will criticize the PRC on several things and have been at odds with many posters regarding issues dealing with Tibet and Taiwan I don't think that leads to presuming that everything negative about the PRC is true or rational. I think this case is a good example. While yes there might be circumstantial evidence this could be true the report as is is very flimsily sourced and there is a strong counter argument regarding why the PRC would do something like this with the strong exposure of World media durign the Olympics.

 

How can you not like Prince? The dude is a freakin' musical genuis and his music while catchy is much deeper than the vast majority of the tripe that has been called Pop in the past 30 years.

 

I like Prince, many classic songs, but Michael Jackson catalog is superior.

I think you confuse criticism of the PRC with somehow generalizing all Chinese people. No where I have I said that 1.4 billion Chinese people are racist.

Now I would say there's probably a lot of racism in China and a great deal of stereotyping going on - but that's true everywhere. I'm talking about a racist policy as opposed to calling an entire nation racist. Perhaps you are reading a generalization that is simply not there.

At issue here is whether or not blacks were banned from being served. I have never said that this makes China a racist country or not. I have only said that it requires investigation and should be taken seriously by the gov't if indeed the gov't espouses a race-bind view. That's it. That's all I have advocated.

How that gets translated into all Chinese are racist and should be condemned is beyond me and if that's what you get out of what I am saying, I'd say you aren't reading what I write, you're imagining something that's not there.

I think what this whole thread is really about is the fear of the world being under cherry (red) moon but all of this is really just a sign o' the times regarding tensions over trade and an international rivalry. I have no ideas how many Chinese buy into the propaganda delivered by their gov't. But without being exposed to other media for the vast majority, it would seem likely their opinions are heavily influenced by the gov't.

Still, I have never said the Chinese people are racist. that's just a complete mischaracterization of anything i've ever written.
