The sad truth is that the audience would probably think that's some sort of confirmed news (I don't blame them because they most likely wouldn't have researched on the source and the story like what we have done here). What a way to perpetual the mutual distrust and contempt between people from the two countries.

there is only one proper response - and both of these are suspect for the reasons given. Whenever a large organization with numerous piece operating semi-autonomously are invovled - there is only one proper response.

It's not to stay quiet, and it's not to quickly deny.

How does discussing an issue involving China on an internet message board equate to blindly accepting any negative news from or about China?

 

I think it really depends on how the talk shows handle the discussion. They could conduct it in a way like it's something confirmed. Or they could make it clear to the audience that it is still sort of a rumor and there are also some sources which have debunked the story. Granted I didn't watch any of the shows so I honestly don't really know. But from the way that Langel said it, I would guess the stance taken by the talk shows is not that objective.

I wasn't really referring to the people here. Moreso - the sportstalk radio topic about this that I heard earlier today. I'm not even talking about the common American. But a quasi-journalistic source such as a sportstalk radio show.

 

No they aren't objective. But then again, sports talk radio is only a quasi-news source so I don't hold them to a high standard.

Heck most the people (even as polarized as they are) on this board, be they "racist China haters" or "brainwashed PRC borgs" seem to have a higher knowledge of China.
