Touche! actually.. 30G of mp3s 26.5G of Music videos 15G of various Family Guy, Animaniacs, Monty Python, Beavis and Butthead and Police Squad videos 15.3G of programs of various sorts and only 13G of pr0n.. and I needed some more space for digital recording of Rox games this year. Those buggers take up a lot of space..
ATI All in Wonder Radeon 7500 have my cable split off to both my TV and computer...then I just do a video capture...relatively easy. Took me forever to find decent settings to retain video quality and still decent file sizes.. I got it down to 10M a minute. I know that seems large, but the video quality makes up for it.
you are capturing a full game in real time??? man, I figured at-home products weren't fast enough and you had to tape first, then capture, especially that much data.
let me know what you need, i willing certainly help with a service that will hopefully benfit me. either that or i will buy you a ****e load of tapes for next season
On my TIVO/Dish system, I can record up to 60 hours of digital programming. I know they run off of regular computer hard drives. You should get one of those and use it, since they are obviously high quality video/low memory set up already built in. Then just tap into the drive in the unit and download it to your computer.
have you done that? Does it have an out, or do you have to gerry rig it? Pulling out the TIVO hd to plug directly to your controller is probably not worth it on a regular basis. Although, I would still consider it, especially since you are supposed to be able to install a 2nd hd into a TIVO...then it would just be a regular swap.
Has an S-Video out and a regular Coaxial out. I have never tried it. Quit frankly, I am not sure what format the unit saves video to the hard drive with. It probably wouldnt be worth the trouble. Although, if you are downloading a ton of games, it might be worth it for the high quality/low hard drive space.
Computers have caught up...Im running a Athlon 2000XP with 512DDR and as long as my IDE bus keeps up to speed..(ATA133) everything works great.. Smeg, The arrangement we discussed before will be online this year. codell, Im curious...what resolution and bitrate does Tivo record to? he reason why my file sizes are large is because i'm keepng the bitrate high and the resolution around 420x420(estimated, I dont remember the actual settings right now) That way, when you watch it on your computer..it isnt some little bitty box onscreen like some vid captures I have seen..
as long as it does have S-Vid outs...I could easily use it in conjunction with my cap card.. I guess I aught to look into it and see if it would improve my captures...
oh, that's no different than capture from a VCR or TV, then. You'd still need a video capture card. I guess I was hoping for an out to support direct file transfer, like the connections to a remote CD-ROM player or sumpin. Like you say, you probably can't even read that drive format.
I dont know about the specific resolution, but the recorded version is just as good as the live version, which is crystal clear. Thinking about it, lets say the TIVO records at 10M per minute, which would be 10x the quality that you have it at. Mine holds 60 hours, which is 360 mins, times 10M per min, is 36 GIGS. So in reality, they are probably recorded at a max resolution.
Well, you could still do that. If you had a regular DVD recorder that had S Video input (i am sure they all would have this) , then you just burn it directly from the TIVO to the DVD recorder and then you could play it in your computer like a regular DVD.
I am confused too I guess. THat is alot of money (but so are 200GIG hard drives). Just thinking of a way to get normal digital video quality without taking up a ton of HD space. I am going to look into the format that TIVO records in. Maybe its a PC compatible codec. If so, then its should a matter of plugging an IDE cable into the drive and hooking it up to the computer and doing a transfer.
Its not...I was just checking. and also, Tivo protects content from recording remotely.. Im still researching this..and also Tivo appears to be adjustable as far as recording quality...from 2Mb to 6Mb depending on what mode you have it set for. When I get more info together..i'll post it.
