Just do a 5 day split where you work different body parts each day. That'll help a little with soreness. For example, Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, Abs/Forearms, Shoulders/Cardio, Legs/Cardio.

Protein shakes is just protein. It doesn't matter if you're working out at the gym or doing pushups at home. Just make sure you get a decent, adequate amount for your goals.

No offense, but it sounds like beginner is an understatement. Go read a book. Seriously, i think you're better off learning the basics on your own. You're just going to get overwhelmed with all the tips and won't know how to properly fit everything or what to follow or not follow based on your goals. Once you' have a better grasp on the basics of working out, it'll be easier for you to ask for tips and know how to apply them.

Or just buy P90x or something like that. It's not THE answer to everything fitness-related, but it'll walk you through work outs and offer nutrition tips.

Either way, you've got to do your part to build some general knowledge and experience. Trying to do it through a message board is time consuming and greatly depends on posters wanting to come back time after time for follow up questions. even if they do, most replies are biased and based on what they do, not what you should do, and you wont know the difference, if you know almost nothing about training/lifting.

Stretching! You need a good stretching session before doing anything. In the beginning you will be sore no matter what preparation you take.

    1) bulking up: google about "eating clean." also, find a program online that will help you track calories in (stuff you eat) and calories out (your daily activities). you will need protein, carbs, AND fat. just get them in the right proportions. regardless of what you hear, calories, carbs, and fat are NOT all bad. you need them all.

    2) if you must work out every day, work different muscle groups. leave a day or two gap in between.

    3) workouts should only take 45 min or so. any longer and you're probably resting too much in between activities OR trying to do too many different exercises OR doing too many repetitions with too light of weights.

*) for a complete beginner, maybe P90x would be a good entry point to give you some structure. FOLLOW THE DIET PLAN.

OP, it sounds like you're a complete beginner. Like a previous poster said, we dont want to overwhelm you with too much information. P90x is a good choice for a beginner that wants to work out a home if that's what you're into.

I think you should go to youtube and look up some body building videos by Scooby 1961, Physiques of Greatness or Twin Muscle Workout. All those are great channels to follow if you're into bodybuilding. I would recommend Scooby1961's channel for you because he shows how to get in shape by working out in the comfort of your own home.

    1) You work out different muscle groups everyday. Therefore while one part of your body is sore, you can work out the other. I typically pair up chests/triceps, backs/biceps, and just lower body with abdominal sporadically placed throughout the week. Never do full body workouts.

    2) Drink protein shakes before, drink protein shakes after. During workout drink only water or you will start vomiting everywhere (especially beginners).

It sounds like what you need is to just get started working out and not try to overthink things. You said you wanted to run in the other thread that is good. If you don't have a gym membership now and don't have gear you can do bodyweight workouts. These are especially good for people just starting out with working out. Before you start adding heavy weight you are at least waking up all your muscles to get used to it. Get on the basics: push-ups, pull-ups, squats, and sit-ups. Do these and do these often. Plenty of bodyweight workout routines out there on the interwebs.

Also word of advice, you don't always have to feel sore after a workout; but you should always be burning out and going until you can't go on anymore.

Focus on heavy weights to concentrate on bulk. Lighter weights, more reps will help with muscle endurance but won't give you the bulk and strength a heavy weight, less rep workout will give you.

RV6 nailed it and Commodore made a fantastic recommendation with Starting Strength.

Forget what you know, what you think you know and what people tell you. Read Starting Strength and follow the program once you have gym access. Until then, do the program without weights as best you can. Weightless squats are better than no squats.

If you want to get jacked arms, put on weighted wrist bands when you jerk off.
