I had never even heard of The Meridian until today. My ticketmaster e-mail listed all the bands coming in the next month..a great eclectic mix of bands, from The Subdudes to Pimpadelic. And usually under $20. How's the venue? say as compared to the Continental Club. Also, I'm not finding squat for Bands playing New Years Eve in Houston, who knows where the action will be? Oh and Pun, live music is as close as you can come to Crack and still be legal. The right live band is better than sex...well as good...well almost as good........as good as bad sex.
SkyBlue72 has their CD release tonight. It's a double CD release - one for them and one for Vibe Committee at Rudz. I'm going to see Kings X tomorrow at the Engine Room. A friend of mine is in a band that is opening for them and is borrowing my bass rig, so they are putting me on the list. Woot.
I saw a Santana show that was superb. Not only a great show for a geezer groups/performer, but a great show period. Santana and his band has a ton of creativity and energy. I'd consider using the word phenonemal about his band and their show.
I'll probably get that SkyBlue72 CD, though I won't be going to the show tonight. There are a lot of good choices tonight for those who like country - Dale Watson at the Continental, Tommy Alverson at Blanco's, No Justice/Jason Boland at the Firehouse, and Mike McClure (alt-country/rock) at Armadillo Palace.
Folks in Houston don't know how good they have it with so many good acts to choose from. In LA we get a ton of good stuff as well, but I miss the opportunities for great Texas music. I could see Dale Watson a thousand times. Remember when he played weekly and they had bar-b-que at the continental? Or was it bi-weekly. It was a few years ago and it was regular. That was always a blast.
Yes, that's very true. There's always somebody worth seeing here on a weekend, be they national/regional acts or some of the local talent. It may not be as good a scene as some places, but I can always find some act I like.
Dale plays every Thursday 'bout a mile from my house in Austin at a fantastic hole in the wall on Burnet, "Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon." He also participates in the Chicken *hit Bingo every Sunday afternoon at 4 there. If you're in Austin catch him while you can...he's moving to Baltimore to be with his kids at the beginning of the year.
Great concert, but that was expected. If I would've known you were gonna be there you could have hooked up with our group in the Lexus Lounge for a few rounds of free drinks. Really looking forward to Coldplay and the the lovely Fiona Apple. I'm completely psyched for Feb. 25th!
The best concert I went to was back in the day at the summit and ZZtop was playing and Joan Jett was the opening act. Joan Jet was boo'd off the stage and ZZtop rock'd the roof off the place and had a 20 minute encore. The crowd forced them back onto stage. The coolest part of the concert may have been stunt act where they had a dummy up on the rafters disguised a cameraman and he fell from the roof and hung off the summit ceiling. ZZtops crazy man.
For anybody who is interested, the up and coming Houston Indian Rapper DEEP is performing Friday night at Club Hush. I think it's in the katy area...
Uh the title of the thread is "Been to any good concerts lately?" - not "Want to go to any lame concerts?"
