Wouldn't suprise me if you already had it You're comparing an STD to the popularity of a sport? Can't you come up with something better?
You have to ask why she cares to make thee comments, I mean who cares? From what I understandm Rugby is a second tier sport in the UK - they just play soccer, soccer and then more soccer, with an off season that goes for about a month. And you want to talk about a pansies sport - these guys go to the deck screaming if they get so much as a kick in the shins! Christopher is right about the mobility and strength of his Rugby League players, but the knock on Rugby is that their players are basically just grunts and don't require any skill The REAL tough Australian sport is Aussie Rules, where players have to be strong, fast, fit and skillfull. (You knew that was coming Christopher). I'm not sure about the pads/no pads argument, but I think their are two major reasons why NFL players need them. The first is that Rugby is generally a one direction game i.e. the tackles are (almost) always coming from in front of you, which makes a big difference in being able to brace for them. A lot of the tackling in the NFL comes from the blindside(Think Reciever going over the middle). The second is the sheer pace, speed and explosiveness of it. Nothing compares to the NFL's combination of size of players, and the speed and force of the hits - partly becuase they are on the field less and can concentrate their effort. Because Rugby is more of an endurance game, the hits are likely to be less severe.
Most likely this is just PR bull to promote her movie in the UK. "I hate American Sports, go see my movie!!!" Wouldn't be surprised if she comes over here claiming to love football.
If you got 6 points for each Soccer goal the scoring would be roughly the same as the NFL. Discussed elequontly in this thread DD
Evens what out? If you play a game for 90 minutes with a running clock while another game is played in 60 minutes with clock stoppages, the former game still has more playing time than the latter. The actual time it takes to play a game might be similar, but there's still more time to score in soccer. And I'm not bashing soccer. I'm not into it because there's never really been a reason for me to be into it. That'll change this year.
No, lots of throw ins and goal kicks and corner kicks etc..etc...that take minutes off the clock. Yes the games are 90 minutes plus stoppage time, and are longer. I just think there is not much difference in actual play time. DD
I'm not sure about the current climate of sports in the UK other than that Soccer is king. But I really don't think that it's a 'second tier' sport. It's probably #2 or #3 in popularity (distantly behind soccer), the other sport being Cricket. Again, this is just conjecture on my part. When I went to England in 1999 I was drunk 80% of my waking hours, so I didn't really pay attention to sports. But anyway, if rugby was a second tier sport, they definately wouldn't have been able to beat rugby heavyweights like New Zeland, South Africa and Australia to win the 2004 Rugby World Cup .
How in the hell did this topic become 3 pages long? I swear you guys are like women. I know guys b**** and moan all day long about how girls read cosmo and stay atune to everything hollywood but you're all doing it right here. Start being men for ****s sake! I feel l like I'm listening to two 12 year olds talking about the tabloid covers while waiting in line at my local grocery store. /rant
