I think probably 60% to 70% of the serious injuries in football are actually caused by the pads and helmet. It would be much safer if the outer shell of the helmet was non-rigid, made out of some dense type of foam rubber or something. Same for the shoulder pads.
Agreed. Like I said, it would force defensive players to think twice before launching themselves at the ball carrier. The way it is today, defensive players use their helmet like a weapon. I doubt it was ever designed to be that way.
Truthfully, when you think about it American Football has tendencies to be pansy-ish. I mean there is probably only about 5 minutes of actual gameplay in a 60 minute game... and you get penalized for all kinds of hitting, like spearing, helmet to helmet, roughing the passer, late hits, running into the kicker, roughing the kicker, etc. I could easily see how a rugby fan would think it is a lame sport... not that I agree, but I could certainly see how it may be perceived that way.

you can't really compare players from different sports. i think it's cool that she's into sports and defending her own. i pretty much like all sports. in fact, i would love to strap on my old oilers helmut and drill here til i hit a gusher. word.
