Yao definitely needs to change his off season routine if he wants to take it to the next level. His conditioning is awful, ran up and down the court 3 or 4 times and before making it to midcourt, stopped, had his hands on his kness and was sucking wind. Playing with the Chinese National team during the off season is not making him better. JVG ought to send Yao to the Texans training camp for some two a days.

How many times does Doug Collins have to say that Yao Ming looks tired? He must have mentioned at least 5 times so far.

When Yao goes to the bench, so goes the Chinese team's offense and the latter becomes a TO machine.

    Could lose by 15pts-20pts.

My god, other than Yao, nobody can step up and make a shot. And turnover after turnover.

And Yao did a so-so job beating the double-team.

China has very bad defense. There are way too many holes in their zone, and then their rebounding also suffers. In the 4th Yao is getting doubled hard, and the guards are throwing up bricks.

Geez, CNT beat my prediction. They could lose by 20+ pts.

I am sure JVG is watching this game, and he will be worried.

Paul Gasol is a whinning b*tch, but you can't deny that he is an excellent player.

I dont think there will be any "Rox should sign Liu Wei/Mengke Bateer/Zhu Fangyu!!!" threads after this game...

Gasol's a ninny who doesn't play defense or rebound nearly as much as he should. But he's the most underrated post up scorer in the league.

Only 12pts and 8 rebs from Yao, and he is fouled out.

20pts 9 rebs from Gasol and couple dunks over Yao and other players. That's kind of performance I expected from Yao, sigh.

Call me a pessimist again. I just don't see how he become a dominate player we all expect.

Yao could have played better, but Pau was getting single coverage the whole night and Yao was getting double or triple treatment.

Pau's teammate made baskets after baskets but Yao's could not buy anything but bricks.

    That's the difference.

Damn Yao sucks. Im a huge Yao fan, but I should have just slept in this morning. He didnt do anything special but make a few layups that didnt almost go in. 0 block shots? Thats ridiculous. I hope JVG b****es him out. Theres no reason for him to be so tired 3 minutes into the game. Yao should have easily scored 25 points tonight. 4/11 shooting, not good.

The fact is, in Chinese team, no one have the desire
to win except Yao. What are they doing there?

Here's the problem I had; for almost the entire first half, Yao just sort of loitered around the perimeter on O and set some screens. He barely got any substantial touches in the post.

He should have been more aggressive. The Chinese guards, by far the worst in the Olympics, shouldn't have been so trigger happy from beyond the arc. It seems like they just don't have any basketball sense.

That said, we're trying to turn Yao into a low post threat, not a slasher/jump shooter who plays outside that idiotic trapezoidal lane with no defensive 3 second rule. Remember what Collins said about Shaq only averaging 9ppg in Atlanta.

I'm not concerned. We've seen Yao play better than this in the NBA, remember?

What can you expect? The last time China won Spain is 10 years
ago. Spain is a golden medal contender while China is struggling
    to make top 8.

This game is too fast for Yao, worse than a NBA game.

Did you watch the first half, where Spain went 1-12 from 3pt range?

Blame Yao and the Chinese big men for not being able to secure a freaking defensive rebound, and for not fighting on the offensive glass.

When your team wins the best player should get the credit. When the team loses the best player should get the blame (remember the reasoning behind the SF3 bashing?). Blame Yao for an embarrassing loss. I'm not worried about the carry-over to his NBA game, but he played like crap today.

It obviously just all goes back to conditioning. Would Yao have tried to take a charge against Pau if he werent so tired all the time? If he had the endurance of a normal player would there be any question that he wouldn't average 12 rebounds a game along with 3 blocks? On the rare nights when he has that burst of energy, he dominates (see games vs Shaq). There's gotta be a way for him to get into better condition. Send him to Denver or something and make him do windsprints all day long.

You know your offense is bad when Mengke Bateer is launching em from long distance.

You know your offense is bad if Mengke Bateer is on the floor.

    Pathetic....

Yao gets schooled again by Pau (Memphis Blues?).

    Yao's teammates help very little.

Yao's endurance? Where did it go?

Yao's teammates play the worst defense!

    Spain's team is just better.
