I know why people don't like "BEAT LA"

it implies that its a city rivalry, that it's Houston vs Los Angeles or Boston vs Los Angeles etc

People don't like to associate teams with cities anymore, but that's what it was back in the day. it was city vs city.

NBC dissing houston as "hell" etc

I always believe that when you criticize something, come up with a better solution. I am sure you can come up with a more creative slogan, can't you?

What the hell...? They started to have the credits roll before the game is even over. The early 80's were bizarre times...

I think it was pretty cool how Boston fans were chanting for the Sixers to beat LA.

The Celts and Sixers were two heated rivals, but their hatred for LA overruled everything.

I think the original poster were pissed that we actually "beat LA" in Game 4 and we would do the same in Game 5.

    GO BEAT LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The week before the OU game, we'll always start the "BEAT OU" chant in the fourth quarter. Last year I was in Boulder for the Colorado game, and the "BEAT OU!" chant filled the stadium since Horn fans were pretty much all that was left at that point.

It's a slogan that lasts a week, relax. If you have a problem with it, come up with your own.

Creed deserves props due to being able to perfectly rip off STP and Pearl Jam to make the worst possible combination of sound but at the same time needing no original ideas of their own.

Agreed, but I'm not a fan of naming the cities when they are chanting.

I'm fine going against a team or entity, but going against a city just isn't fair. I love Los Angeles, in fact, it's almost like a second home to me (I'd be there over Austin right now in a heart beat). But, in the end, I don't like hearing "L.A. Sucks" or "Beat L.A." I'd rather it be "Lakers Suck", because they do.

It's the identical situation when we played Portland and they were chanting "Portland Sucks." I just don't think it's fair to everyone in the city. The "Blazers Suck," but I actually think they're very classy so I wouldn't even say that. I would just say "Go Rockets." There's far too much negativity in this world, we don't need more.

we had chance to win game 2 but let it slip away. not only artest, the whole team lost patience. actually, lakers are great matchup. we were that close to victory. defensive rebounds and shutting gasol down is the key for game 6. i am just curious why we don't front gasol. he is not that athletic.

Yes, I concur. After tonight's humiliating emasculating kick in the shmeshticles I think our new chant should be "KILL L.A."

I was gonna post about the Sixers beating the Celts and the resulting chant, but I'm sad it took 3 pages for you guys to provide an answer. My dad went to Camp Milbrook and could tell you (and me growing up) about every Celtics event ever.

It was actually very touching when it happened, otherwise it wouldnt have survived. You know, like landing on the moon was kind of important. Could you imagine the '97 Rockets chanting "beat Chicago!"???
