Which part of KD's reasoning do you disagree with? Wade scores just as much, but does so more efficiently. Wade averages more assists even when he has considerably worse teammates. I think the rebounding and the defense are about even. Wade's younger and Kobe's on a downward trajectory (not rapidly declining, but he is declining).
So much about passing the torch, Wade disagreed. http://dimemag.com/2009/06/dwyane-wade-kobe-bryant-is-still-the-best-player-in-the-game/
This was quoted 14 months ago, and it could have been said earlier than that. Right now Kobe has the recent rings and the better team--so it is hard to argue against him even though Wade has more impressive stats. Further, most classy players will acknowledge older vets even if inside they know they have surpassed them, but next year at this time we can re-evaluate Wade vs Kobe as the best shooting guard now that Wade has a team that should match-up.
Wade's number is close to Kobe's in 09-10 regular season. Kobe scored slight more, Wade was 1% higher in shooting % and had 1 more assist. But at the same time, it's easier to compile numbers in bad team. Apparently, Wade thought Kobe's best player in the league because he's smarter with the game and he has the determination. Kobe hasn't declined enough on athleticism to pass that torch.
