I would also like to add that in 94, it was Vernon Maxwell who led the Rockets in assists and he wasn't the point guard. this was probably because Kenny/Sam split time and Mad Max played most of the game. Damn these dudes were good!
the guy is putting up 1-2 articles a day during the offseason you think thats not working hard/working harder than others out there? Unlike other writers there is actual substance to his articles and not the usual "Yay for LA, Miami and Boston!" from ESPN but people wont be clicking if the content is crap, clearly he has kept his job because his content is top notch and thus drove "clicks" as for him he chose this profession maybe because he was more passionate about basketball than anything else and wanted to write about something he loves? based on what he writes that he is up all night and is DVRing games...of course a lot of that could be an intern as you say but just from the timing of his tweet the guy lives somewhere in indy (once again i am making this assuming from his tweets) so he is EST and is up tweeting about west coast games at midnight and all. Even his BtBs are delayed because he said he didnt get a chance to watch X game so he waited to see it on the DVR in the morning. At times he cant get to every single game and he'll admit that in his articles...if it was an intern why say 'i didnt get a chance to watch this but c'mon who wants to see the wolves vs the nets?' he could have easily had the intern write a small piece on the game thats not true at all there are several things you and I agree on and several things we don't -- not going to continue on this point to since we've made this known to each other already several times in teh past. not all coaches, GMs have played in the NBA and they are also observers and yet know more about the NBA than any of us here will ever. Its just about studying just like in school. I know more about basketball today than I did 10 years ago, its not like I gain a whole lot more knowledge because I went to the NBA, its because i started to watch more games and more carefully and with a different perspective. I still have a lot to learn of course. Sometimes being blessed with physical gifts will let you be in the NBA...by this assumption of yours Ariza would be the far smarter person when it comes to basketball than you'll ever be. never sent an email to kelly in my life I do like reading his articles because he actually writes detail articles that can only come from watching several several hours of games or watching games far better than what the superficial drivel most major media outlets put out. the guy is putting reasons as to why and puts in last year's position on it too. for example in his opinion brooks jumped to 21 from 27. Its not like he is ranking without thought once again I have no idea where you get this suck up thing from? Because I started a 'happy birthday CF thread?' sorry I don't take things for granted and would like to just show some appreciation to everyone here the one time of year it rolls around. Oh the horror in that. As for Kelly, I have tweeted to him in the past but to say we go back and forth is laughable and as I said I never emailed him in my life before. I dont feel like I have to get anyone's back but BDL is one of the few blogs I consistently read (well yahoo basketball in general) because of their consistent top notch work and to say that he and solomon are the same is just ridiculous and I am not the only one who feels that way. Just because he wrote about something that you happen to disagree with it suddenly "just another sportswriter" I am positive that had Brooks been like #11 or higher you'd be posting on how "intelligent" he is etc. (You and every other poster here knows you would so please do not try to insult myself and everyone here by saying you wouldn't) As for the DDingleberries ... whats with the name calling? Those other guys didnt call you anything they just expressed their opinions..it just disagreed with yours...oh wait i'm defending them now and I'm sucking up again my mistake
To me, its not that important for Brooks to be a high assist guy. If he can continue to be a prolific 3-point shot maker, and he continues to be one of the best PGs in the league at cutting without the ball, and if he becomes more confident with his midrange game, and if he improves as a finisher in the lane, I'll be quite happy with his offense.
But thats the case for all championship teams which is why I would rather have Melo over Paul. Dominate PG's (except for Zeke and Magic) don't win titles.
I agree with them last year also when we need scorers. Things can change though. The signing of the 3rd PG means Rockets are ready to ship out 1 of the PGs if the right opportunity comes, and it also means our PG situation isn't perfect as you think.
I agree with you but I do like a PG that can make the game easier for his teammates. When he's hot though, he can be a beast.
Tony Parker normally is not a first option for scoring on the Spurs (a couple of playoffs and seasons being an exception) and usually gets to the line a lot more than AB. Parker also has the ability to finish strong at the rim through contact, something AB has yet to do. As far as passing, for the most part, Parker is much better than AB as well with his career 2.24 ATR.
Too bad there is no stat for making people pay when teams double team your best player. Well I bet Morey probably has a stat for it which is why Brooks is the starter.
One thing is clear on this board....... IF AB doesn't improve.....we know who is going to be the scapegoat.....I guess that's settled.
I wouldnt.. not at this point.. Let's not forget Harris led one of the worst teams in NBA history last season. And they had a decent big man in Lopez.. Harris is overrated and last season exposed him.
Let's face it, DD. If Kelly had put Brooks in the top ten, you would have posted something entirely different.
DM wanted 3 PG's in case one was injured. You remember what happened last year when Lowry went down without a 3rd PG in the wings right? AB logged heavy minutes and we had a losing record.
He also lead the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2006. You clearly didn't follow last year that he was struggling from injuries. That whole team struggled badly man. I guess Lopez sucked as well. When healthy, Harris is a beast with his speed and his size.
He better make improvements then. Try to elevate his game from around 15 to a top 10 PG, not necessarily by scoring.
The topic is WAY too subjective. What makes you the best PG? Passing? Shooting? Steals? Assist: turnover ratio? Any given system is going to demand different skill sets from their PG. You put Steve Nash on this team and his assists go down. Does that mean he's a worse player?
