All I want is consistency in the polls. I know this stuff is subjective. I'm too tired and drunk to go on a rant. I can accept OU ahead of UT, but not WSU. They lost to a team by 18 points that beat Purdue by four. They're not that good. In fact, I think there are 5 or 6 teams in the top ten that would beat wsu or osu.

And since I prob would have gotten turned down by Harvard, I guess I hate the Crimson football team too.

I love how you go out of your way to make a personal flame, when discussing college football.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to try and bash me, then I guess it shows how much you've done with your "holier than thou" UT education.

People wonder why they hate UT? Well haughty fans like yourself are the cardinal reason.

My honest objective feeling about UT's football team, is that talent-wise they are only behind Miami, and even that is disputable.

My feeling is that their conservative play in big games, as well as Simms hiding into a shell, have prevented UT from going to the big game.

I won't say that UT will never win a title, because I thought that about the other UT, who win in 1998. Eventually, UT will have too much on-field talent, that even the most piss-poor coaching can't prevent it from winning.

However, I think OU will always be there to give UT a hell of a time.

Remember that OU is getting more talent than they have had since the 80s, when they paid players and what not. OU's closing the talent gap on UT, while they hold a decided coaching edge over UT.

I think UT and OU will be the 2 best Big 12 teams for a long time. Meaning that one or the other will screw each other over, by preventing the other from going to the the Big 12 title game.

As an FSU fan, I can admit that ND deserves the right to gripe about that. However, I do think FSU was the better team that year, at least on a neutral field.

That seemed to be the logic of most voters at the time, whether you agree or disagree. Also, I remember hearing the same reasoning for FSU being ahead of Miami in 2000, despite the head to head loss.

The fact that the OU loss was at a NEUTRAL site, doesn't "cushion" the blow for UT. Assuming that the logic I mentioned earlier, still applies. I think if UT had lost by 3 pts to OU @ Norman, then I would be more inclined to give UT the benefit of the doubt.

As an FSU fan, that is the logic I heard regarding losing head-to-head.

In fact, I remember hearing that once of the CPU polls in 2000, considered a 3pt loss on the road (which is what FSU lost by) to be as good as a win.

Wel, to be frank, you have no reason to hate Crimson fans. They're not as obnoxious as UT or any other fans for that matter. Look, we all have our bias, and I think yours is against UT. We can sit here and piss on the UT program all we want, but they did finish top 5 last year and they should do the same this year. They're back. They're not dominant, ala FSU or Miami, but they have to take it one step at a time.

Honestly, UT hasn't wowed me this year. The team looks complacent. But ,they do win. I thought they should have whipped KSU, but seeing KSU last week makes me rethink my position. UNL is tough to beat at home. I don't care what they win by; they won, hats off to them. But, I think a playoff system makes any argument moot. I can go on all day saying how UT would romp over OSU or WSU. But, it can't be proven this year. I guess I'm frustrated at the circumstances. I can't see putting WSU ahead of UT after UT took care of business. WSU did as well, but they did not dominate their opponent. Therefore, I thought everyone moving up at the same rate would have been the most logical way to approach this. OSU did take care of business. Just win baby, right? But, they have struggled with Northwestern, Purdue, and Cincinatti.

And, the only reason I made a "personal flame" is because of your McNeal thread. Obviously a thread for you and the Aggies to f$%^ with the Horns. Will you at least admit that? I'm one of the most biased and passionate Longhorn fan here, but I think I've been at least civil when civil behavior is given towards me.

I guess I went too far to "hang" UT fans on that thread... however I still feel like a lot of UT fans (not necessarily here) weren't shy to say that McNeal would be a great DB or WR. It made me wonder, "If UT had signed Reggie as a QB, they probably wouldn't be saying that." That I guess was my main beef.

I do admit that that thread probably makes me look like the biggest anti-UT fan.

However, when discussing just football only, I feel I am objective regarding UT.

    edit:

Also, if A&M fans had said VY would make a better WR or DB, I would have been as likely to flame the Aggies about that. I just am a really big Reggie fan, from when I saw him play last year. I like VY just as much fwiw.

That's the way it goes in rivalries. I'd be happy with either McNeal or Young. That being said, Vincent looks like he was made to be a QB. McNeal may be one of those guys that has "it" again.
Young impressed the crap out of me at the San Antonio all-star game.

Young looked great in that Army All-Star game, but looked even better IMO against Katy and Austin Westlake in the playoffs last year.

My only question with Young, is whether or not UT will try too hard to force their offensive system/structure onto VY. VY makes plays by the seat of his pants, and should not be saddled by a stict offensive system, that requires him to stay in the pocket, make progressions, etc.

VY is hell for defenses, when he's improvising.

From what I've seen of UT's offense (maybe it just has to do with Simms and Applewhite not being burners), is that they want their QBs to do it "their way". If GD can adjust to VY being a totally different type of QB, then VY should be an All-American before all is said and done.

Yep. Here's the thing, if you run a 4.5 or 4.6 forty or are just naturally elusive, why type-cast yourself or try to make yourself into a pocket passer? McNabb can be a pocket passer, but he isn't. I'll tkae him over Manning right now. It would be a mistake to make Young into Simms II. I think he'd perform better and improvise more, but take advantage of the talent you have at each position. Molding them into a system isn't the right thing to do.

Know anything about Chris Leak? I suspect he could be the next Young. But, he says he'sa strict "pocket passer." Why typecast yourself? Of course , he's averagin 450 ypg in high school right now.

From what I've read on Leak, is that he actually is a pocket passer. He "only" runs like a 4.6 40. So he won't be mistaken for a Vick or anything like that.

And you are right about typecasting QBs. I feel like you build your system around the players you have, rather than vice versa. Your system must be able to adapt to the various types of players you will have at every position, year in and year out.

I'm not that big of a Mock fan, from what I saw of him in HS (I think Mack recruited him, just to get a QB... He and Dustin Long were the top 2 in-state QBs that year, a bad year for QBs), so I would be surprised if VY doesn't start next year.

What do you know of Nordgren? I can't imagine him being able to hold back VY.

Nordgren is an excellent pocket passer without much speed. Truthfully the Texas coaches are not dumb enough to hold Vincent Young back. I listen to a lot of sports talk radio and a personality around Austin is B.J. who is on the afternoon show. Texas has all intentions of running the option some next year which is Chance Mocks strengths. Greg Davis has coached the option before so he is comfortable with the system. Also we are starting to run more plays out of shotgun which, next year, for Vincent Young should be great with that designed draw play from shotgun. I know the Texas coaches take the heat but there is no way they will restrict Vincent Young. The only reason they haven't run from the shotgun more often is that Simms isn't comfortable doing it. And as Applewhite said why make your quarterback uncomfortable from the start of the play if he doesn't like shotgun because it makes him feel uncomfortable then they don't run it. Actually they are running it now because Simms finally realized how much it opens up the game plan. Also does anyone get the feeling that Ivan Williams is going to be an excellent offensive weapon from the fullback position next year?

Here's why we fell in the BCS this week (esp in the computer rankings):

Our opponents went 3-6 in games they played

WashSt's opponents went 5-4 in games they played

This is how it will be the rest of the way down the season. We need crap teams like Tulane, Houston, North Carolina and North Texas to start winning.

Not neccesarily. If Georgia, ND and Iowa lose that more effects the averaged computer rankings (allowing UT to close on OU and WSU) than a few bottom feeders winning does. Also, if KSU keeps on winning and SC loses (either them or ND must lose later)--this also helps us also.

They key is OU though. If OU wins out it will be very hard for UT to catch them. In that case we need Iowa and WSU to keep on winning, OU to look very unimpressive in winning (somehow staying behind Iowa, WSU an of course UT in both polls), and OU's noncommon opponents to fail (e.g., CU once before the Big 12 championship, Bama) and UT's noncommon opponents to win (KSU, Nebr except for KSU, and the other Major mentions).

In sum, if UT, OU and WSU wins out I have a hard time fathoming how UT could move ahead of both of them in the BCS. If OU wins out, or OU falters before the Big 12 title game and UT wins the Big 12 title game than I am pretty sure either will be ahead of WSU regardless of what WSU does. What would really be sticky is if WSU wins out, UT wins out and OU loses in the Big 12 championship game. Then the highest ranked 1-loss BCS team is totally unpredictable.

For KR and others, why shouldn't OU's loss to a mediocre team in the Big 12 count LESS than a UT loss to them? It isn't like last year where OU lost to a #1 or #2 ranked Nebraska team on the road (in no small part to a trick play) where in all honesty OU still did deserve to stay ranked ahead of UT. And opposite of last year--where Texas dodged the #3 Big 12 team (Nebraska) this year OU dodges the #3 team that Texas beat on the road (KSU). In short Texas has a good case for being ranked ahead of OU if they take care of business this year especially since OU will likely dodge a top 10 KSU team from their own conference (assuming KSU wins out--no sure thing).

I just hope Mack handles this situation better than the way he handled the SImms/Major situation.

My concern is WSU and OU finishing above us, the Rose Bowl picking Iowa, Orange Bowl picking Notre Dame, and Texas going to the freaking Cotton Bowl. Orange Bowl has already said they'd pick a 10-2 ND team over an 11-1 Texas. Rose Bowl almost definitely would take Iowa to keep the B10/P10 rivalry going.

We need to finish in the Top-4 of the BCS to force one of them to take us, which means we have to jump WSU. That could come down to how their opponents do and how our opponents do.

    My predictions:

OSU loses to Michigan as overratedness catches up to them
WSU loses to either Washington or UCLA(both tough games)
OU or Miami are the key: if one loses UT stands a good chance at Tempe-as long as we take care of business.

    And that is no guarantee.

Sorry kidrock(I drew a blank on WSU's last opponent but knew they were no slouch)

    Don't they also play Hawaii??

Laugh, but the game is at Hawaii and weird things have happened there in the past.

Holiday, Cotton, Orange, Sugar (is the ACC/SEC locked in or something?), Rose (I think a slot will be open there if WSU and/or OSU goes to the Fiesta--though I agree they would be hard pressed not to take a 1-loss Iowa team versus a 1-loss WSU if they have the option), I don't care much between them this year. To me if we don't make the Fiesta, I could care less what other bowl game we get. I think the conferences pretty much split up most of the BCS money anyway.

I don't think we have to worry about WSU for the Fiesta slot if it comes to that, unless OU wins the regular season out but loses the Big 12 championship game. Otherwise if either Texas or OU wins the Big 12 title game they will be ahead of WSU and next in line if OSU or Miami slips up, I am quite sure.

I personally think there is a good chance OSU loses (possibly even this week--Illinios has won 3/4 including victories over Purdue and Wisconsin, teams that I said would, and in fact did, give OSU fits) and/or WSU loses. I think there is a fairly remote chance Miami loses (they seemed to have regained their focus) and a only a slightly greater chance OU loses prior to the Big 12 championship game (I think CU seeing them for the 2nd time--if CU beats either ISU or Nebr they will represent the North--or KSU would be a much tougher match-up for OU than Tech or OkSU).

I'm 99% sure they don't play Hawaii this year. And, I do know what you mean about weird things happenening on the island. I'm convinced that any night/late night game is liable for something crazy to happen.
