This is a poorly researched article. What is the source other than the Boise State athletic director? I don't see any proof that schools won't play Boise other than Boise's AD saying "No one will play us!" How about giving us some examples of schools that you've called, what you've offered to do, and why they told you they wouldn't play you?
I'm sure the Big 12 would cough up a couple of cents. I'm sure the BCS conferences earn every penny they get through revenue generation.
Not saying that they don't have a game scheduled, but there are open dates on UT's schedule http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-texas-longhorns-football-schedule.php Oklahoma's schedule http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/big-12/2011-oklahoma-sooners-football-schedule.php Alabama's schedule http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/sec/2011-alabama-crimson-tide-football-schedule.php LSU http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-11/sec/2011-lsu-tigers-football-schedule.php Florida is full though.
Looks like they have space for all of one more game by NCAA rules on either of two dates - this is on the same day that Boise State is looking for a game? edit: Looking at Boise State's schedule, looks like they already have a game on one of UT's open dates. It also looks like they already have a full slate of nonconf games for 2011. WTF are they complaining about exactly? Or is this some bull**** PR campaign to get them a BCS bowl slot this year? I'm guessing it's the latter.
Well, that's only UT. A lot of schools do have open slots in the back end of their schedules. It looks like the WAC's problem is that they play all of their conference games during non-conference play. It's probably a little from column A, and a little from column B though to answer your question.
let's get real here. Put this team in the big 12 or sec and they'd go 3-10. A few lucky plays here and there and a win over a overrated pac 10 team doesn't make you a power-house. 2009 September 3 No. 16 Oregon W 19-8 1-0 (0-0) September 12 Miami (OH) W 48-0 2-0 (0-0) September 18 at Fresno State W 51-34 3-0 (1-0) September 26 at Bowling Green W 49-14 4-0 (1-0) October 3 UC Davis W 34-16 5-0 (1-0) October 14 at Tulsa W 28-21 6-0 (1-0) October 24 at Hawaii W 54-9 7-0 (2-0) October 31 San Jose State W 45-7 8-0 (3-0) 2008 August 30 Idaho State W 49-7 1-0 (0-0) September 13 Bowling Green W 20-7 2-0 (0-0) September 20 at No. 17 Oregon W 37-32 3-0 (0-0) October 1 Louisiana Tech W 38-3 4-0 (1-0) October 11 at Southern Miss W 24-7 5-0 (1-0) October 17 Hawaii W 27-7 6-0 (2-0) October 24 at San Jose State W 33-16 7-0 (3-0) November 1 at New Mexico State W 49-0 8-0 (4-0) November 8 Utah State W 49-14 9-0 (5-0) November 15 at Idaho W 45-10 10-0 (6-0) November 22 at Nevada W 41-34 11-0 (7-0) November 28 Fresno State W 61-10 12-0 (8-0) December 23 vs. No. 11 TCU* L 17-16 2007 August 30 Weber State W 56-7 1-0 (0-0) September 8 at Washington L 24-10 1-1 (0-0) September 15 Wyoming W 24-14 2-1 (0-0) September 27 Southern Miss W 38-16 3-1 (0-0) October 7 New Mexico State W 58-0 4-1 (1-0) October 14 Nevada W 69-67 5-1 (2-0) October 20 at Louisiana Tech W 45-31 6-1 (3-0) October 26 at Fresno State W 34-21 7-1 (4-0) November 3 San Jose State W 42-7 8-1 (5-0) November 10 at Utah State W 52-0 9-1 (6-0) November 17 Idaho W 58-14 10-1 (7-0) November 23 at Hawaii L 39-27 10-2 (7-1) December 23 vs. East Carolina L 41-38 10-3 (7-1)
of course the once in an 100 year statue of liberty play! Boise state vs UH would be a good bowl matchup...
that was an amazing BUT lucky play... put them in the Big East or even CUSA and they would hover just below .500 every year....
They beat tulsa on the road this year , the same task that took UH a last minute drive and UH is the top of the conference...
lol yea...i was trying to illustrate my point by using extreme out-of-touch examples, kind of like Boise state, thinking they're an elite program.
http://www.broncosports.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=48555&SPID=4061&DB_OEM_ID=9900&KEY=&Q_SEASON=2011 Boise State has 4 non-conference games scheduled so far, any of which could easily be dropped if they found a better opponent. However, this year, they are playing 13 games - not sure if that's normal, but if so, they have still 1 non-conference opening for 2011. Nice attempt to move on from your "everyone's schedule is full" argument though.
again, i want to reiterate that it would be nice if this article were based on anything other than the Boise AD saying "No one will play us!" there's not a single mention of talking to an AD that Boise has attempted to contact.
Of course there's not. The AD publicly going around and saying "USC won't play me!" isn't going to do anything good for Boise State. All it does is make it less likely any ADs would deal with him.
According to the article, Boise is looking for someone to play Sept. 3 2011. Texas, Florida, and USC are the only big BCS schools that already have an opponent for that date. OU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, LSU, Bama all have open dates for that day. I would really like to see the list of schools that were contacted.
Boise State is a member of the WAC, meaning they play Hawai'i every year. Teams that travel to Aloha Stadium are allowed an extra game so Hawai'i isn't at a massive disadvantage scheduling home games. Boise State played a game at Hawai'i this year, and will do so in 2011.
