Sure - but he's said before that Pure Points is not the best measure of how good a team is or where it should be ranked. At the end of 2007, West Virginia was #1 in that measure, followed by OU, then 9-4 Oregon, with national champ LSU in 4th. The composite rankings were LSU, Kansas, West Virginia, USC. Oregon was #8.

In 2006 (and this is AFTER the bowl games), USC ended up #1, followed by Ohio State, Louisville, and then national champ Florida. The composite rankings were Florida #1, followed by USC, LSU, and Ohio State.

Your points seem to contradict....You say that all games should be treated/ counted as equal, yet you say that "USC looked good when it counted." Huh? Don't all games count the same?

Did USC beat Texas this year? Because if they did, then you could say they are better undoubtedly. The whole we beat this team by this much, and you only won by this much is worthless. Hell, beating a team head-to-head too early in the year has been proven to be worthless, too. (See: Texas v. OU, 2008.)

I was wondering the other day how things would be different if Texas lost to Tech two weeks before we beat OU instead of the other way around. Just switching those two games on the schedule likely lead to a different national championship game. I'm over it by now, but it's silly that WHEN you beat a team in college football carries so much weight, too. It would be so awesome if the voters actually watched the games, and if the people affected by these votes weren't ALSO the ones doing the voting....

You can go back and forth here. Texas's defense was awfully lousy in the Tech game. I think we gave up nearly 6 bills of yards. I don't know why we didn't play them more like OU and Ole Miss did (blitzing more), but water under the bridge. Colt and Texas offense also lost focus in the 2nd half versus Okie State through the 2nd half versus Tech. I would say that is an equally unimpressive stretch of football by UT as SC versus OreSU, just wrapped around 2 games. IMO it basically revealed unless Colt was extremely sharp, thankfully he was most season, the Horns were average to slightly above average and quite vulnearable.

Also, SC's top performances against PSU, tOSU and Oregon were very impressive offensively and defensively, perhaps as dominant in all phases as anyone. Basically if Sanchez was sharp (and some times he wasn't) they could blow out some good to outstanding teams because of a stifiling defense and balanced offensive attack.

Personally I think Texas will deserve the 2 ranking based on total body of work at the end of the year. But would I expect UT to beat SC 5 out of 9 times, no, I do not. Again resume and what a team earns in ranking doesn't have to coincide with how good they are (reflected in future prediction and point spreads and such).

A good thing is I do see USC will lose 9-11 of their top 14 defensive players. I would expect Mays (who should go pro, shocked if he doesn't) to be #10 and Kevin Thomas might be #11 leaving. Their defense will be nothing close to as good next year.

Texas should start as pre-season #1 next year. Unless maybe Florida gets some of their key juniors players back (Tebow, Harvin, Spikes--I'd say Tebow is the only one somewhat likely). SC will probably round out the top 3--their defense will be worse, but their offense better (regardless of what Sanchez does). I assume with Bradford's entire Oline leaving + two best wideouts + probably Grisholm, Sam will be wise to get the hell out of there with his stock way up. OU's defense should be better though. My guess is they would be 4th or 5th.

After that, who knows. LSU, Bama, & Ohio State immediately come to mind as somewhere in the 4th-7th spots with OU. Okie State should be able to score even more points (and probably give up as many--though I'll say this could be a trap game for UT). Okie State Honestly could crack the top 10. Oh, how can I forget Neuter Dame in the preseason top 10 after their big bowl win.

Here is my 2009-2010 pre-season poll:
    1 Texas
    2 Florida
    3 USC
    * solid top 3 but the order could change with defections.
4 OU now if Bradford and Gris return, major up
    5 LSU
    6 Ohio State
    7 Bama
    *now really tricky....
    8 Florida State
    9 Okie State
10 Iowa (if Greene leaves give this spot to Utah)

Sorry I guess I will be one of the few pretend hacks without ND in there in the preseason :)

P.S. Watching the coin toss. I love how this game is played in Florida yet Oklahoma is the "home" team. Always funny to see that happen.

This might be the earliest in a game I've even seen a review.

I've never seen so much hype to determine the national championship runner-up.

Why not? After Utah being the champs, they gotta generate excitement somehow.

I think they get something from Sears if they win. Like a washer and dryer. That's pretty sweet dude!

I can't stand how the announcers are sucking up to Tim Tebow.

I mean c'mon "Your life is better for spending time with Tim Tebow"..

I was undecided who to root for in this game but I'm pulling for the Sooners now.

They need to take the bowl games and let someone else do it. Fox is horrible.

Isn't ESPN going to start doing them next year or something?

I just posted this on another message board and came over here to see if it offended anyone here also. Jeez. The announcers are ridiculous. Fox should be accessed a 5 year no bowl game penalty for that one.

Actually, the Rose Bowl is shown on ABC.

Since the Rose Bowl is the site for next year's BCS game, does than mean ABC gets to show the game?

FOX needs to stay out of college football.

I don't know who I want to win this game. On one hand, I absolutely can't stand ou and their fans. On the other hand...nevermind. My dislike for ou is more than anything else that might happen.

    GO GATORS!
