Okay, let's talk about #7 Louisville. Same analysis: - Kentucky: 3-4 record (wins versus Texas St., Mississippi, and Central Michigan) - Temple: 0-7 record! - #17 Miami (FL): 4-2 record (wins versus Florida A&M, U of H, North Carolina, and Florida International) - Kansas St.: 3-4 record (wins versus Illinois St., Florida Atlantic, Marshall, and OK St.) - Middle Tennessee State: 3-3 record (wins versus Florida International, Tenn. Tech, and North Texas) - Cincinnati: 3-4 record (wins versus E. Kentucky, Miami (OH), and Akron) Well, at least Louisville beat a ranked team. I guess that's something. Too bad Miami (FL) isn't any good, though. Louisville, like West Virginia, has played only ONE team with a winning record. And yes, like West Virginia, none of the teams Louisvile won against have beaten a Top 25 team. Yet, Louisville has a .620 computer % and is #7 in the BCS. What in the blue hell is going on here??? Is everyone taking crazy pills???
Texas has only beaten one team with a winning record (not including I-AA Sam Houston State, which I think doesn't count in the rankings) and I don't believe any of the teams we've played have won against a top 25 team either. We do have a win over OU, but we also have a loss that WVU doesn't have. Besides which, the computer rankings never look right until there is more data for them to better evaluate teams, so I don't think the computer rankings are all that surprising. Assuming UT continues to win, the computer ranking will shoot up with 6-1 Nebraska and 6-1 A&M on the schedule, hopefully along with a 9-3 or 10-2 type Nebraska or Mizzou in the B12 title game. Every year, people are shocked and stunned when the first BCS rankings come out in the middle of the season, and then it always comes together for the most part except for a common controversy at 2 vs 3.
Sorry - any teams we've beaten. OSU might have beaten some good teams, but we got blown out by them, so that doesn't tell us anything.
Major, I wasn't venting about UT's low ranking. I just hate the BCS rankings in general. Yes, UT has a reason to be annoyed, but so do Tennessee and Florida, IMO. I can't stand this flawed "mathematical" ranking. It's an absolute joke.
Guess I am the only one happy with my team's ranking. Woo Pig Sooie! Not that it matters, because we won't even sniff the national championship game. I don't understand why fans of all the teams within the top ten are complaining right now either. These mid season rankings are good for nothing but riling up the fans and getting college football some publicity and into water cooler conversations. Just about every team that is whining right now will end up losing another game and not having to worry about a damn thing as far as the national championship is concerned...but people like to complain and scream that their team is the best. Who cares at this point in the season?
wtf, looked like somebody hacked the BCS it probably started as a scheme to round off fractions of a point but those noobs got a decimal place wrong
Sure - but it's not exactly like the polls are any better. Notre Dame always gets overranked by a few spots. A team that doesn't have a big name or wasn't expected to be good can't jump up unless someone ahead of them loses (see Auburn in 2004). What do you propose as the best way to determine #1 and #2? They already have made so many adjustments that the computers don't even matter unless the polls disagree on who's #2 for the most part. I think the BCS made a mistake when they took out margin of victory from the computer rankings, certainly. But the computer stuff isn't really designed to be accurate after 6 or 7 games, so it shouldn't a surprise that they aren't.
Oh I definitely agree with that. I also think they should include Margin of Victory. But ultimately, as long as it's a tool to figure out #1 and #2, there's going to be controversy unless the top 2 teams are completely and totally clear cut (like last year). That's not really the BCS's fault - it's just the fault of people for trying to artificially pick 2 teams from several teams with the same record.
Boycott the BCS. Go playoffs! I know it will never happen because schools that are perennial title/bowl contenders don't want to lose the money associated with a bowl. Doesn't the worst bowl still pay out $1 million and the BCS bowls near $15-20 million?
I love how the computer ranks RUTGERS and BOISE STATE above the defending national champion TEXAS ( a team that has only been defeated by the current #1 team in the country). Ya I would love to see what a rutgers v TX game would look like.
