I watched the game with a bunch of Longhorns, and it SUCKS that Colt went down, but get over it. The Horns played a great game, they just didn't catch the breaks that Bama did. It was a team loss. Gilbert was a part of that team all season long, just the same as Colt. I'm sure he was prepared to enter the game, and he did play very well considering the situation.

It sucks for the Longhorns out there, but it sucks just as much for everyone else. I wanted them to win tonight because I was freaking sick of hearing about how they got screwed last year, and then they got their chance. They lost fair and square in a hard fought game, but I know I'm going to have to spend another year listening to these Longhorns piss and moan about how badly they got screwed.

You could be right, but he was noticeably upset as he was leaving the field, walking around in the locker areas, and when he was coming back out.

He was more cheerful on the field in the 2nd half, because as the leader, he wanted to encourage Gilbert and the rest of the team to keep pushing on. Best thing he could do as a leader unable to play for the team he's fought with for several seasons. And he had a supposed "smirk" because he was happy that the offense finally had something goin for them and had some momentum on their side. Finally broke through and started making some completed passes and scored..he was being optimistic..and they almost came back.

On another topic, t-mac needs to.....

    jk..

Gilbert, i see a lot of fans saying he is gonna be the next big thing. Really? I know he was one of the top QB's in the nation out of HS but man he looked terrible tonight(i know most would have), Shipley made him look like he was doing better.

Is it me or his throwing mechanics/release and reactions and everything so damn slow? At least he has height.

Actually, I was quite impressed with his performance tonight.

He's a rookie QB who probably gets minimum practice time and had to go out on the field during a NC game against a top-ranked defense like Alabama.

Sure, he got intercepted a few times, but some of those were freaky-lucky.

And his passes were off because his timing on the routes were not crisp.

He had like 20 pass attempts before tonight. This was basically his first ever college football game.

He also had a TD pass dropped by Williams just before his 2nd INT.

I thought he did about as good as he could.

Maybe UT learned a lesson, not to put so much on one players shoulders...pardon the pun.

No running game, no meaningful playing time for the backup QB.....they rolled the dice and it came up 7 at the worst time.

yeah but did yall not notice his mechanics? It looked off to me. I just sense a lot of sacks in his future for some reason.

I think he'll be ok. I'm sure he was shell shocked. A true freshmen playing against a stout & aggressive defense.

If the receivers would have made some plays, the game could have ended differently. So many what if's even after Colt's injury.

It's not as disappointing due to the circumstances but I was expecting a W tonight so I wasn't mentally prepared for a letdown.

He looked ok at times, and bad at others.....made a few good reads and a lot of bad ones...basically, he looked like a freshman.....playing his first game.

that was by far the best defensive efforts i've seen from this team..

i am a freshman at UT, and I am happy to live in the era of Garrett Gilbert..this guy is going to be a legend..

Like i said, i understand he was facing all that. But, he did get a ton of reps and i guess my gripe is the way he throws the ball. Also, It seems like he keeps it shoulder height for a while as he is thinking of where to throw, its like an awkward step forward and then a very slow release.
