That must be one of the most mild concussions ever, since he actually played better after getting it...

Man or mouse Mr. Icehouse, man or mouse? This is not some yearly ski trek to Colorado with college buddies or a camping trip with the boys or even a visit to a Vegas brothel. This is football... the National Championship Game... Texas only plays here every 4 years or so. Tell your boss you've got H1N1, tell your wife you hope she's still at home when you get back and drive to Pasadena. If she loves you, she'll let you go.

Yea but Vince generally thought he should of won and he had the cred. I'm sure Colt knows there is a good reason he finished 3rd.

True.... Regardless... I think Colt will bring his A-game.

    Deja vu all over again?

2005 - Undefeated #2 Texas goes into Pasadena to face the also undefeated #1 team. Said #1 team has Heisman trophy winner who beat out the Texas QB Heisman candidate. Texas goes on to win national championship.

I don't see the situations as the same. In 2005, USC was the national media's darling, their defense was weak and UT averaged over 50 points a game. There was no reason for an objective person to think this wasn't a 50/50 game. But since USC was USC and UT hadn't been in the national picture as much, discussion was slanted.

This time around, I don't think the particulars of the matchup favor UT. If Alabama plays the way they are capable of, they will win (probably handily) IMO.

Again... I think you've underrated UT's defense. I mean I know you can't compare two teams defenses and offenses because of the different schedules... but UT has a more efficient offense. Let's say Bama does stop it, which is likely to happen... what makes you think Texas can't stop Bama even with the way Bama has been playing on offense?

I was not intending to compare the specifics of the matchup, but I don't think that Alabama will win handily. It's so funny how everyone in the media seems to only focus on the most recent game. McCoy was the Heisman favorite, and Florida was probably the favorite to win the SEC. After one game, Ingram becomes the Heisman favorite, wins the Heisman, and now are the favorites to win it all. McCoy drops to 3rd in the Heisman, and Texas is the underdog to Alabama. I think Texas will be able to at least stop Ingram from being the impact player he was in the SEC championship, and force McElroy to have a great game. I don't think Alabama's offense will be up to the test. I do think that Texas' offense will be, and that Texas will win the game.

If McElroy plays like he did in the SEC championship game, the Tide will be a dual threat to the UT defense, who I could be underrating. But I can't get the A&M game out of my mind. Their secondary was shredded. Giving up 26/33, 342 yards and 4 TDs to a QB I hadn't even heard of shook my confidence in Texas' defense.

I want UT to win but I just feel Alabama is the stronger team (esp. if McElroy plays well).

See but you're only looking at the good and bad. The good of what Bama did on offense and the bad of what Texas did on defense. Those were just one game.... the overall picture states that Texas' defense is still one of the best in the country.... McElroy hasn't been that way the whole season... I know it's a big stage and all... but that doesn't mean he'll do a repeat performance of what he did against Florida.

The same week of that A&M game was the Alabama-Auburn game, where Alabama's offense couldn't move the ball on a pretty terrible Auburn defense. Ingram managed a total of 30 yards on 16 carries against that defense.

If you're going to objectively say Texas will struggle because of out-of-character rivalry game, you have to say the same about Alabama. That's the problem with looking at individual games. If you look at season-long performances, you see a different story of both teams.

Jared Johnson is way better than McElroy. He could not have made those throws.

Season-long performances don't always tell the story in bowl games. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but Alabama seemed to be stronger late in the season. Texas had two nail-biters. Alabama might have been looking ahead to Florida but at least they pummeled them when the game was played.

I can accept this. That A&M QB will get my attention next season. Gotta keep an eye on that guy.

Pleeeeease UT win this game. I won't be able to stand the media slobbering over how awesome King Saban is. Not too many coaches I dislike more than him.

I can see Bama winning the game, but Texas' defense is better than the 2005 team. I would argue that Bama does not win handily.
