    yeah dude,

I don't understand the animosity by the Cougar fans, especially here.
They aren't even UT's rivals..meaning we never even think or care about U of H.
If I didn't go on clutchfans, I wouldn't even know that Cougar fans felt this way.

    UT Rivals

    Oklahoma
    A&M
    Tech

U of H??? only in the minds of the Cougar fans

Old school UT fans hate (maybe that is strong) UH from the SWC days. Cougars won multiple SWC titles in the late 70s with Yeoman, and even blew out Texas a couple times in the late 80s under Pardee. It is hard to say they are "rivals" now because they rarely play each other, but if you have been a Longhorn or Cougar fan for a while, the animosity is definitely still there.

    Notable Stats:

UT 2 and 0 in the Rose bowl
    UT undefeated against Bama
UT winner of 5 straight bowl games including a National Championship
Mack Brown 1 and 0 vs Nick Saban
Saban lost his last Bowl game in an Ass Whipping against Utah... a team he was favored to beat.

A great UT defense will dominate a mediocre Bama offense. Lets all cheer a UT dynasty already in the making!

    Go Horns!

    this.

granted i'm biased so i have Texas winning regardless. i actually think fla still posed a greater threat to Texas, but you can't deny the drubbing bammer put on gaytor.

edit: i've got to say that seeing the "give (Insert superstar head coach) a month to prepare" line has me feeling a lot better about the horns' chances.

It all depends on if Greg Davis can vary from his incredibly predictable tendencies. If he reverts to the same boring game plan he has used all season (no misdirection, slow developing run plays, badly blocked screens, the HORIFFIC 5 wide formation that allows for a free shot at Colt plus incompletion/interception - the Horns are toast offensively and need defense/special teams to win.) If he's able to introduce some new wrinkles, maybe things change. Also if Colt plays tight and awful (though having Suh living in your face doesn't help) and reverts to bad habits like he has in some prior big games it's over.

The Nick Saban vs. Greg Davis match-up is the one to watch. Davis is HEAVILY outmatched in this one. Major Applewhite will be a huge help since he was an offensive coordinator under Nick Saban (and therefore schemed against him in practice). I haven't read every post in this thread, but I'm surprised more isn't being made of this.
On the other hand, I have a ton of faith in Will Muschamp being able to handle the Alabama offense with "a month to prepare."

Muschamp was also a defensive coordinator under Saban at one point so scheming against Saban might not be as different as scheming against Muschamp.

I don't think people are making more out of this because a month is a long time to prepare for a team. As Saban put it lastnight, they're going to watch every game from the season and both teams are going to know each other's schemes and tendencies.

I'm personally not putting much into it because no matter what Bama brings defensively, it's gonna be up to our O-Line to stop Cody and co. We can scheme all we want but if our OL cannot physically match up with Bama's DL, it's gonna be a long night.

I don't even like Alabama but that's the kind of pompous attitude that makes me want Alabama to beat UT.

Thanks. I have a reason to cheer now.

    Good. Watch and be disappointed.

Q: "Why are Longhorn fans so arrogant?"
    A: "....because we're the best!"

Until 1992, when basically the UH program imploded, the UH-UT series was actually very competitive at 7-11-2. (and from UH's time playing football in the SWC they had 4 titles to UT's 5)

A lot of older longhorns I know really remember getting stung by UH in the 70s after inclusion, and man did they hate it... and then came running up the score in the 80s... there's a lot of longhorns from that 20 year era who think of UH as a really hated rival.

I'm familiar with the UH-UT games you mention above. Yes, Texas severely disliked many aspects of the program when they were on an upswing. However, referring to it as a "rivalry" is simply overstated.

The scoreboard still reads 16-7-2. Admiral, in the grand scheme of things...

Hmm... going a little overboard there buddy? A long SEC reign?

Can I throw raw eggs at you if the SEC doesn't reign like you say it will for the next 5-7 years?

I'm saying that Alabama's talent has matured and with the recruiting/program where it is that they (the Tide)will rule the SEC for the next 5 - 10 years.

That's really a bold statement... What about Florida? I think their reputation will stay where it's at... Yes Alabama has grown.... and we'll see if they do win the NC this season or not... Ingram will most likely leave for the NFL, I wouldn't expect him to stay. Without Ingram, I don't think they will be as good next year even if McElroy stays. But that's really a bold statement... LSU still exists, Georgia Tech and Georgia still have great programs. Arkansas is up and down... I mean anybody in that conference could get recruits.

Yeah, I guess it is.....Arkansas is on the rise....Florida is Florida (Duke is Duke ) and just about anyone can reach up and bite ya in there..But what the heck ?!? Life is cyclical and I figure it's time for the Tide to rise again under Saban. He was building a juggernaut at LSU and really wanted to be where he is now.

Besides, if I'm wrong, you can find me at a Cougar game where I'll be more than happy to take my drubbing....We won't know for awhile...2 - 3 years to judge this one.

By then the Coogs should be playing in a new stadium with a possible SEC invite at hand. Under those circumstances, bring on the Eggman .... cue the music... :)
