But would it be fair to let France and other European countries who opposed the war get the contracts? They opposed regime change and still seem to be trying to get in the way. I agree it looks bad. But even if we are being a bit greedy, we're still not like the old empires.
I think France and Russia have acted in their self interest as well. I think the only fair way would be to let the Iraqis decide.
I see where Bush is planning on spending $200 million on his reelection campaign. The awarding of these rebuilding contracts is a quid pro quo to heavy contributors. Given te track record of paying bak I predict they'll get it. Another major aspect of the kickback for contributions scheme is privitization. They sell privitization under the guise of saving money but the real key is that it creates a reward to give to contributors. I see Rumsfeld is proposing more privitization for the Defense Dept under the guise of 9/11 of course. Millions more in potential kickback to contributors in the making. Dubya speialized in this when Gov. of TX. I remember how the Chronicle rana story about the great increase in wealth of Dubya's friends after he won the governorship. This explains why these supposed government haters and bidness people seek government office so keenly.
I'm sick to death of all the bashing of 90.1. There is nothing more patriotic than wanting the make the country better. There is nothing more patriotic than standing up For the people of this country, and the world, and Against the policies of the president-select. This administration and war has brought a shame upon this great nation. A shame that we, as Americans, will have to live with for generations. When a government is acting unethically, it is the duty of the country to speak out against it. That is patriotism. That is what 90.1 is broadcasting. Unconditional love of government, any government is not love of country. It is nationalism. And that aint good.
