Butthole Surfes ~ Wooden Song Dinosaur Jr ~ Wagon Flaming Lips ~ Turn It On Smashing Pumkins ~ I Am One Ed Hall ~ White House Girls Social Distortion ~ Born to Lose Reverend Horton Heat ~ Psychobilly Freakout Nirvana ~ Come As You Are Sonic Youth ~ Kool Thing Foo Fighters ~ Everlong
In no particular order off teh top of my head. Thought of eleven, can't decide which one to take out Lithium - Nirvana Quiet, Mayonaise - Smashing Pumpkins Cold and Ugly, forty-six & 2 - Tool Killing in the Name of - Rage Against the Machine Soul to Squeeze - RHCP Closer - NIN When I Come Around - Greenday Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots Tommy the Cat - Primus
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Metallica - Enter Sandman Pearl Jam - Jeremy Candlebox - Far Behind Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline Guns N Roses - November Rain Live - Lightning Crashes The Offspring - Come Out and Play Aerosmith's MTV Music Awards Version of Dream On (I know its a much older song but that version done in the mid 90's was absolutely amazing. Much better than the original and it was on the Last Action Hero Soundtrack) RHCP - Give It Away I thought a lot of the songs that some of you put up were pop songs, not really what I would consider rock. Counting Crow, Lisa Loeb, and some others are not rock. Of course thats my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
I disagree... while it is a very good song, I think the Donkey Kong theme song is the greatest rock song of all time.
1 - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 2 - Mayonaise - Smashing Pumpkins 3 - Closer - NIN 4 - Black - Pearl Jam 5 - Black Star - Radiohead 6 - Song #2 - Blur 7 - Trust - The Cure 8 - One- U2 9 - Drive - REM (could easily also say "Man on the Moon") 10 - Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires - Cocteau Twins That is all I can come up with off the top of my head. I guess if I was really interested, I could probably tighten this list a little better. However, I am not into this stuff right now; it is all about fusion, particularly Miles, Mahavishnu, Weather Report, and Return to Forever.
Offspring - Self Esteem, Pretty Fly (For A White Guy), She's Got Issues, Why Don't You Get A Job Danger Danger - Still Kickin' , Goin' Goin' Gone, Shot 'O Love TNT - Downhill Racer other 90s artists of note: Harem Scarem Ten John Wetton, especially the _Battle Lines_ release adding Prog Rock to the mix: King's X Royal Hunt Spock's Beard
Not necessarily my favorites, but songs that deserve some consideration: 1) There she goes - The La's 2) Macarena - Los Del Rios 3) Right Here Right Now - Jesus Jones 4) Waterfalls - TLC 5) Man in the Box - Alice in Chains 6) It was a good day - Ice Cube 7) Daughter - Pearl Jam 8) Low - Cracker 9) Seether - Veruca Salt 10) I will always love you - Whitney Houston
I think the category is "rock songs." Numbers 2, 4, 6 and 10 (regardless of their merit) don't fit. My choices (based only on my sense of what was most popular - I happen to loathe some of these songs) 1) Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 2) Alive - Pearl Jam 3) Under the Bridge - RHCP 4) Longview - Green Day 5) Enter Sandman - Metallica 6) Today - Smashing Pumpkins 7) I'll Stick Around - Foo Fighters 8) Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind 9) Insert song by Korn 10) Insert song by Creed (shudder) Rock singles really went downhill as the decade progressed - thank god for album oriented artists like Radiohead.
I'll take a stab. "Santa Monica" - Everclear "Black No. 1" - Type O Negative "Christian Woman" - Type O Negative "My Own Worst Enemy" - Lit "Freak of the Week" - Marvelous 3 "Good" - Better Than Ezra "Possum Kingdom" - Toadies "Cannonball" - The Breeders "Only" - Anthrax "Thunderstruck" - AC/DC "A Small Victory" - Faith No More "Symphony of Destruction" - Megadeth

I love the Billy Madison quote, I woulda finished it had I seen this thread in time. 1)Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing 2)Nirvana - Lithium 3)Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge 4)Pearl Jam - Jeremy 5)Nine Inch Nails - Closer 6)Weezer - Buddy Holly 7)Eve 6 - Inside Out 8)Green Day - Longview 9)Blind Melon - No Rain 10)Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun 11)Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life 12)Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy 13)Live - Lightening Crashes 14)Bush - Machinehead 15)Sublime - What I Got I can't keep it to 10. There's lots of other songs I'd like to mention, too, but I stuck with my opinion of the best song from each band/biggest hits of the 90's. I wanted to put on songs from Alice in Chains, Collective Soul, Metallica, AC/DC, Verve, etc. but just couldn't fit it. I hate how most people think Nirvana, STP, and Green Day have just those 1 or 2 songs. Smells Like Teen Spirit, When I Come Around or Good Riddance, and Plush are some of those bands worst songs compared to their other stuff. Those are my 3 favorite bands of the 90's, and I know every song they produced, so I think I'm accurate in saying they all have better.
Can't just do 10, in no particular order... Pearl Jam - Even Flow Pearl Jam - Alive Stone Temple Pilots - Plush Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give it Away Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge Bush - Glycerine Fuel - Sunburn Green Day - Good Riddance Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life Hootie & the Blowfish - Let Her Cry Nirvana - In Bloom Nirvana - Smell's like Teen spirit Metallica - Enter Sandman
Wow, I can't believe somebody else said it! You have to have good taste and know your stuff if you mention that. Did my post remind you of it, or were you going to say it regardless?
