    Germany is awesome (or so I've heard, never been). I've been dying to go- particularly because most of my family emigrated from Germany after WWI.

    No; but you have to weigh that against Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Wagner, inventing movable type, calculus, the first public school systems, gasoline powered internal combustion engines, modern psychotherapy, theory of relativity, nuclear fission and rocket science. We have got to expand our history curriculum beyond more than powdered wigs, Private Ryan and Advanced Alamo Studies.

    Considering what led up to WWII, probably not. Perceived economic and cultural antagonism, mixed with wounded national pride, can manifest itself pretty negatively.
