But it was you who twisted it to a new level. The UN observers consisted of officials from 4 friggin' different nations, not just the red commie China. 1. Show me when China spied on Israel. 2. Show me the other 3 nations involved, Austria, Canada, Finland, have never spied on Israel.
Nowhere did I say that it had a thing to do with the other 3 UN observers, nowhere. I'm not sure exactly what I twisted to a whole new level. I passed along something I had read that might help make sense of why Israel would nail a UN observation post that had been in constant contact with them (link: debka.com), and labeled it as such; not as the bonafide truth. How exactly am I supposed to show you when China spied on Israel? Do you think there are official write ups on this? Show me official links of US spying on N Korea or China spying on US. If you'd rather believe that countries don't spy on one another, go for it. If you don't want to take what I posted as anything but garbage, feel free. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, just passing along stuff I had seen that wasn't already in the thread. No one else seems to have a good handle on what happened or why. Evan
This is exactly the problem I am talking about: China is being singled out, out of blue moon, on suspicions of spying on Israel, when the Chinese official is only among one of four dead UN observers due to Israeli attacks in Lebanon. Last I checked, there has never been a single concentration camp for Jews in the history of China. In fact, it was China who had hosted hundreds of thousands of Jewish migrants/refugees escaping persecutions in Russian and much of the Europe beginning in early 1900s and continuing to WWII. The current Israel PM's father was a Russion Jew who lived in northern Chinese city Harbin for decades before he left to fight for an independent Jewish state in the Middle East.
What kind of logic is that though? That doesn't make Israeli domestic policy right or acceptable. Fine they're not AS BAD as say Saudi Arabia or Iran but for a country that touts itself as the only democracy in the Middle East and a defender of Western Liberalism in the region, they ought to at least try a little harder to actually put some of those ideals to practice. I agree that Israel is in a security dilemma that none of us come can close to imagining or experiencing and as a result the rules will be a little different for them but the extent to which they deny basic rights to Palestinians on what Israel claims as "Israeli territory" as well as other issues that extend even to Palestinian territory just seem like way to much.
You should have stopped before you got to the "but". The Islamo-Nazis want to destroy Israel and it's a bit rich for Kofi Annan, Jan Egwhatever, et al to lecture them when those bureaucrats could never imagine what pressures the Israelis are under and have been under for nearly 60 years.
I'm not sure why you keep touting this "destroy Israel" bullsh*t as except for a few fringe groups, most of the Arabs simply want a return to the '67 borders, and uhhhh...humane living conditions.
I doubt that is the previaling view on the "Arab" street, even in Egypt and Jordan which have decent formal relationships with the Israelis.
As I mentioned earlier it is a homeland where people who have had genocide attempted against them, and continued prejudice can live without that. Since that time they have Jews from all over the world faced prejudice, famine, and the like. It has been a chance for people to prosper and live where they wouldn't have been able to other places.
Apparently, Hezbollah have been firing from positions in the vicinty of UN forces. See - http://www.un.org/Depts/dpko/missions/unifil/pr010.pdf
do the Palestinians deserve a homeland? sovereignty? Native Americans? Would America be willing to carve out a spot for Native American Sovereignty? [reservations are not true socereignty and they are not receiving 2 Bill a yr from America] The children of the former Slaves? The Jews are not the owners of genocide many different groups can state the same as far as prejudive. . . in america alone. . . . the groups are high What makes Jewish people in Isreal so special and all these other groups . . not? Rocket River
Palestinians do deserve a homeland and sovereignty. I agree that the Jews are not the owners of genocide. They aren't also the only ones who have been victims of prejudice. But there's has been a special case. In the U.S. other minorities have been the victims of large scale prejudiced. But that isn't true of all over the world. The Jews on the other hand faced world wide discrimination. It wasn't just Germany but all of Europe and the U.S. that bred that prejudice. They were being exterminated, and later imprisoned in the Soviet Union. While other groups have faced prejudice and even attempted genocide, those problems were localized, for the most part. For the Jewish people it was world wide. That is why their situation was unique. That doesn't mean that no other group is special.
In stead of dealing with Jewish refugees in Europe, Jews were planted in British Palestine. In stead of letting a nation state develop natually in the Palestine Mandate area, a nation was created by powers around the world. That's the original sin in the middle east.
What was done was done. I hate the "mommy he started it" argument. Past karma has put everyone in this present situation. The question is what peaceful means can we take now?
Exactly.. Whether Israel's creation and the process by which that happened shouldn't be of our concern right now and doesn't do anything but complicate an already complicated situation
OK then, what is the statue of limitation on "past karma" and who decides it? The Israelis are still actively pursuing WWII holocaust perpetrators, no?
"The U.N. observers killed when an Israeli bomb hit their bunker in Lebanon Tuesday called an Israeli military liaison about 10 times in the six hours before they died to warn that aerial attacks were getting close to their position, a U.N. officer said." I believe they deliberately hit their target. They should have known it was a UN post. The fact that they were unable to effectively communicate not to hit the UN post, after receiving numerous communications on the subject leading up to the bombing, makes Israel's military command borderline incompetent in my book. They can cry "accident" all they want. They are dumbf**ks for doing it. What more can one do to avoid being struck than was done? Yet, they were still struck.
