Yeah, the "if you disagree with me you clearly don't know basketball" idea is clearly evident in the OP. I'm sure he meant for it to sound that way; read his posts since the draft, they all have that same attitude.
I just think everyone has differing opinions, doesn't make anyone right or wrong, just passionate about the Rocks. DD
I have a good set of credentials and no willingness to share my hoop CV. This is seemingly the new 'thing' on the BBS. It needs to be dropped. (For example, recheck the roster of well credentialed NBA GM flops.) Your most 'elegant' point was the JVG success/failure comment. DM the GM right guy/wrong guy? You don't know. I don't know. You can worry all you want, I am. But I certainly do not know. None of us do. (Again, recheck the roster of well credentialed NBA GM flops.) The answers to this off season will be fleshed out when: Mo Wms chooses. Bucks or Heat will need a Rafer-like 1 (Gadzurik, Haslim?) unless Stevie goes to South Beach. Steve Blake lands. If he returns to Po'land then Nugs need a 1, perhaps Knight? Or Rafer? (Najera? Rafe + Sura + ?/Camby?) KG is traded. Who knows the fall-out from that move. Darko (Darko? Yes, Darko) lands. It will affect 'bigs' decisions by teams. Rox roster needs work. I hope DM the GM is up to the task.
Shut up, Achilleus. You are being an arse-wipe. This is not the place to display your command over the English language. Now respond to the substance of the post, or go f- yourself.
Now, that's elegance! (With all the grammatical and spelling faux pas on this BBS [Note: how 'bout spellcheck, Clutch...please?!!] this Thread gets (randomly) selected for parsing?
I am with you on this one. Besides, elegant can refer to writing style, which is an appropriate description for one who takes the time to do so on this BBS. The word Achilleus brought up is completely in refrence to a speaker. "Elegant writing style" or "her elegant literary style" is appropriate. I don't understand why someone would take the time to call out such a discrepency. -V
I think that every team in the league wants the kind of players you want- young, explosive, athletic- there just aren't that many out there. We already have 2 max contracts, so there's not much salary room left to add anyone expensive. Apart from going into luxury tax, can you make some recommendations for us? What's out there that Morey's missing? (and don't answer Splitter or GDavis).
I think DECKARD describe me and quiet a few other posters well. I lived and died UH and Rockets for a long time. I lurked here for 3 years before registering. My basketball IQ is about average, but I have good common sense. I did over react on the Battier trade, still think we should have got a draft pick also. CD was a GM that tried to be fair and kind which in this business doesn't necessarily work out for the good of the team. Do not want Steve Francis back! We cannot afford a good PF by free agency. Do not want a old has been like Smith ,etc etc and so forth. I hope we have broke the habit over over paying sub-par talent. I use to think having two superstars on a team with 5 or 6 good role players on a team was enough, but it looks like you need a third near superstar on a team to win in the west. Maybe this is Morley's goal but I am nervous about him. I wish he had come from a management team with a stronger track record. Sorry if this post is not well worded I would hate to offend anybody .
Me thinks the thread starter is taking himself and his "BB IQ" a little too seriously. You know you are a BBS attention w**** when you give your basketball resume when starting a thread.
As this is my first post I think its fitting to put it in a thread which questions your "cc.net" tenure. Honestly though I don't see how playing basketball in high school has any real relevance to constructing a good team - which is what I think everyone on this board wants. Certainly playing basketball lends one to be familiar with the sport but there are a host of ballers that I would want to stay as far away from the Rockets as possible. I really wanted to have Stevie Franchise back for the mle. However after Mike James and the draft I'm not so sure he's needed. He'd bring a passion to the team that I think is missing. I don't see it happening though. I think people should give Morey some time. I do like his patient approach. Just because there's a pressing need (PF) that doesn't mean he has to get the first available guy. If no one is available that fits the Rockets need then make a trade or sit tight. That's what pisses me off the most about Tim Purpura. Last off-season the Astros really needed some offense and he just blew his $100 million wad all over Carlos Lee. Great hitter, but he's an awful fielder, terrible base runner and he broke Everett's leg. I think more then anything the Rockets need attitude. Charles Oakley in his prime, someone like that. No idea who that would be though.
I find it funny that your premise for BB IQ (shouldn't it be BBS IQ?) is based on your disagreement with others. Essentially, you are saying if someone doesn't agree with you, they must explain their stupidity by comparing their tenure on the board, length of time as a fan and time spent playing basketball to prove themselves. Not only is that incredibly condescending, it's based on the faulty premise that you guys are right most of the time.
Yeah, if nothing else this appears to be closest to the mark. Starting multiple threads inwhich the topic seems mostly centered on him/herself and their fanship. Pretty well everyine here has strong opinions about the Rockets and wants them known to the community, but do so without starting "I know alot about basketball because I played in highschool" threads.
Faulty premise? What? Wait.....you mean we are NOT right all the time...... Oh, man, my wife is going to be shattered. Let's just all go back to being Rocket fans with individual perspective, shaped by whatever things life has thrown at ya. Opinions are like asses, we all have them, and others are more cracked than our own. DD
I agree with DD some of the time and disagree with him some of the time. I think that makes me "middle-class". Where that puts DD, I don't know! EDIT: In truth, the people I seem to respect most on this board are people like aelliot, thacabbage, Gater. They generally not only seem to have decent opinions about the team in general, but the almost ALWAYS base their opinion on reality - they understand the CBA, the fact that other teams won't trade superstars for scrubs, etc. Which usually means they don't start threads whining about what should/shouldn't have been, how smart they think they are, or moves they would have made regadless of the actual extremely small likelihood that any of those moves are even plausible. I try to post with similar thought process.
LOL ... Even if your choice of word were arguably more suitable than that used by Rockets-R-Us, you probably should have expended your effort in more justifiable objections to some of the most blatant and prevalent misuses. Look no further than at the threads on the 1st page of GARM: "Chronic: No bones about it - Rockets being smart" "[Chronic]Spanoulis says he won't return to Rockets" "[Chronic]Rockets looking for more from Novak"
I am always amazed at the depth and research that some of the posters go to and it is nice to read and think about the different perspectives, that way a reader can get multiple views of every thing.
This is the most confusing, random, thread that has like 25 topics springing off. Is this a spelling test, a BB IQ quiz, a off-season trade thread, a grammer exam, a FA thread, or a I hate management thread??? I dunno. Who cares.
Man, it's a shame that Les missed your resumé. I hope that I can start agreeing with your positions on more things so that I can increase my BBQ IQ to your level. It'll come in handy at the next cook out.
